Hi all,

Just thought I'd do my bit and tell you about a website that needs the word spreading! Its a non profit organisation called the Carbon Neutral Company and they strive to make you Carbon Neutral - the term Carbon Neutral means working out how much Carbon you and your family put into the atmosphere and putting measures in place to reverse this Carbon Debt and therefore making yourself Carbon Neutral . The site uses and money raised to plant trees and puts money into renewable sources of energy.

Although I might be sounding like a bit of a tree hugger I really do believe we all have a responsibility to look after the world we live in and you can start doing this by reducing the amount of Carbon you create - or your Carbon footprint.

The b/f and I have decided that instead at stupidly expensive christmas present for each other we will both pay to make ourselves "CN" - the site has measured the amount of Carbon produced by the UK, divided it by the amount of people living in the country and then applies a cost that if everyone paid would make the UK "CN". As a result we are paying £130 each for the entire year - might seem a bit steep to some but if you divide it by the year its only just over £10 a month.

For those of you who think it might be a bit expensive there are also lots of options to help - they work out how much carbon is created when you take a flight - for example a return flight to Italy only costs £5 to neutralise - hardly expensive. They can also work out how much is created by your car, or even just your gas / electricity consumption.

There are also items for sale that you can use around the house - things to use in your washing machine / dishwasher to reduce the effect on the enviornment.

I know that I've gone on for ages but I think its something that really needs awareness raised. The webiste is:

http://www.carbonneutral.com

Even if your not going to spend any money please just go and have a look in the hope that a raised number of hits will start to generate a greater interest - even if it just makes you feel better for the amount of Carbon you create! :p Thanks for reading guyz!

All the best,
M3ch

The trouble with our home is mainly that everyone is spread out.
The cosy/tv is always lit and heated and tv on etc, but the kids are normally in their rooms doing stuff with electricity, lol
and my husband is usually in his room, doing god knows what
and the kitchen is where you'll find me, cooking and typing with the place lit up like Ballylumford and every kitchen and PC aplliance from here to Cork and back.

I promise to be good.

All is ask is that you think about how much you use on a daily basis and think about how to reduce it that bit more each day ;) ok you can slap me for being such a tree hugger now! :boxing:

Loooove this site. I am always looking for ways to be more green. We dont fly (never saved up enough points), house score is 0.7 and the car score is 6.4 only because oh has to drive 400 miles a week for a contract that pays the way. I will definately be buying the wash balls and other gadgets. Great find.

My nieighbours are unhappy about my 2 beautiful silver birches at the bottom of my garden, because the roots are pushing up their patio. What can I do - would break my heart to chop them down, and would lose all the 'height' from the garden, and the screen that stops them seeing straight into my kitchen and dining room from their bedroom?

tell them to move their patio - a friend had problem with tree roots and they just "lived with it" rather than destroy trees not sure that you can be forced to do something unless it is affecting the structure of a house

Brilliant M3, I am trying to do the same, problem is I love to travel, but I allways go on the tree website to offset my air travel, and try and live as eco friendly as possible, I live in an old wooden house, but would love to build an eco friendly house with solar, composting toilet etc, I did in one when I ran the Organic farm, years ago.

Wow I'd love to do this as well - its our dream to get a house out in the country one day and become as self sufficient as possible - its harder to do when you live in a town/city espcailly if you live in flats as you are limited to the amount of stuff available to do - but I think not matter what situation someone is in if they do everything they could possibly do to help then its a step in the right direction.

M3, I just thought I would let you know that I have just my car emissions by paying to a Solar Energy project in India and Sri Lanka.
I was surprised at how little it cost. I also like the idea that it will have instant impact on peoples lives by giving them a healthier environment and improve the economy by allowing them to work better.
Money is a bit tight at the moment, but when I look at how much I earn from cashback and surveys, I decided I could afford it. What I've spent is less than I've earned since Christmas alone.
I've always tried to do my bit with recycling and energy saving. It's good to have done that little bit more. :)

Good going Tiger! Would rep you but need to spread it round first! Can you let me know the details as I'm interested in doing that myself :)

tiger
18th February 2007, 23:31
I just clicked on the link in your first post and calculated the emissions for our car and then chose the project I wanted to help fund.
We don't use the car a lot. I put in 200 miles a week and it was £25.51 for the project.

M3chanical_animal
