:maldives-Drunk:
Thought I would start this thread so those who want to cut down or stop drinking for whatever reason can support each other. I want to stop drinking for a while while I lose weight. I have no intention of stopping for ever and I don't think I drink a dangerous amount.
Whether we want to save our waistelines, livers or pockets, stop for good or just cut down - In true PTS spirit (excuse the pun :p) Lets support each other. :maldives-glass:

I gave up alcohol about a month ago and feel so much better, I definitely don't feel as 'down' as I did before giving up and I feel fresher, (if that makes any sense) it was difficult the first couple of weeks but is getting easier by the day, made me realise how much of a 'habit' it really was - haven't lost any weight though as choc consumption has gone up - so replaced one habit with another!

I rarely touch alcohol. I can't say I'm teetotal, as I will have the odd glass perhaps a couple of times a year on special ocassions, but I don't enjoy it at all. I'd rather a cup of tea TBH! I have no objections to folk enjoying a drink if they like it, but I hate to see alcohol abuse. If anyone on here is being controlled by alcohol, and finding it hard to cope with life without it, I'd urge them to seek help now. Like waterfall says, there are lots of reasons to stop or cut down, and I think this thread is a good idea. :tea:

I tried to give up a few weeks back and lasted for 3 days. :(
I was worried at the time that I was drinking too much and I have managed to cut down. So I will be quite happy if I can stick to 1 or 2 glasses a night a few times a week. Dh has a few beers 4 or 5 nights a week and up til recently was feeling a bit lethargic and unfit. About 2 months ago he started running and cycling again and has lost I'm guessing about 1 1/2 stone and looks fab.
Good luck to all you who want to cut down or give up. I know that I would fail if my target was to give up completely. But I do want to stay within sensible limits.

After I received the witches warning from my GP three months ago . . I stayed on the wagon for 9 weeks . . and now limit my drinky-poos to 1 1/2 bottles per week . . and feel a lot richer for it . . . (no weight loss though!!!! )
I'll be very happy to bolster up flagging willpower with my PTS friends
(PTS - p1ssed til Sunday?)

Not surprising with all that going on, but if you can admit you have a problem then maybe you don't have too much of a problem, IYSWIM.
PM me anytime you're feeling low, Cinders.

Cinderella – I really feel for you, I’m in the same boat, my hubby left me and two kids five months ago. Last week he told me we have to sell the house, as he can’t afford to help pay the bills anymore. I started drinking just to help me sleep but now I’m drinking all the time just to help me cope. It upsets my that I’m drinking as I’ve been on the wagon for 15years, and now it’s worse that before.
for some reason i cannot pm u time out.... (have tried but seem to have probs getting pm to work) but if u want to pm me anytime  the doors open xx

Time out and Cinders have a big :grouphug: This is obviously a very difficult time for you. Things will get better and your lives will move on. We are all here if you want to rant. Next time you feel like a drink post on here first.
Time out - did you get professional help 15 years ago? Drink is never the answer in the long run.

you will both get through it with time - I sold my house, moved to a different
district, moved jobs and got rid of partner all the same day! It worked I get a bit lonely sometimes but then I remember the 'bad' times and decide it was
the right thing you all take care...............theres a better world for you waiting and you are both worth more than you can think! xx

Snap. I don't even have a drink on Christmas Day or New Years Eve. (I am the ideal friend coz I'll not drink and drive!!)
Hubby is the wine fiend, but I will only permit him to drink at the weekend (admittedly he'll have a bottle of Australian red on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!!!) He'd probably have a bottle every night if 'd let him!!

WATERFALL– I didn’t get professional help 15 years ago, I had a miscarriage. No one could say why it happened but I was convinced it was the drink so I gave up and tried again! Then a few months later I found out I was pregnant again and I never drank again, not even when I had my second miscarriage. That’s why I’m so mad about it now!

There was an item on the radio news today about drinking alcohol increases your chances of getting bowel cancer.
We get told that moderate wine drinking is good for your heart. Can't win can we?

We can't win at all.. I read somewhere that grapefruit was good for something.. heart/cholestral I think.. Since then I've read that post menopausal women shouldn't eat too much cos it can cause breast cancer! Even "healthy" foods are bad for you, so enjoy everything in moderation is my motto. And if you can't stick to moderation, then best leave well alone.. lol
I don't eat any butter cos I know I prefer it and will therefore always choose that option.. I refuse to die miserable for always choosing the "better for me" option though, so will continue to enjoy a glass or 2 of wine when I want it.. but I would NEVER drive if I have had a drink.

Cinders, my husband is a recovering alcoholic and has been dry for 10 years!! When I ask him what do you think about never having another drink he says I will not have a drink today!! The answer is "just for today", thinking of months and years is just too much! You will be OK and if you want any support PM me and I will get his AA book which has some wonderful sayings to get you by! Good luck and all the best

You are not being weak cinders. You are being very strong. It takes a lot of guts to admit to having a problem and doing something about it, and I admire you for that. I'm sure Graham can give you lots of support and advice. Don't give up
