My friend is a cleaner and she gets between £10-£12 per hour and her husband is a gardener and he probably gets between £12-£15 per hour. They are both very, very good though and have regular customers.
Also I suppose it depends on where you live!!!

I am a nanny, but used to be a cleaner when my son was only in part time school
you wouldnt believe the amount of people, who would think nothing of paying more for someone to clean their house than look after their children
i used to get between £6 - £7.50 per hour as a cleaner
we currently pay someone to cut our grass :o works out just over a tenner a time

My sis pays £10 an hour. Needs a cleaner cos she's recently disabled after a serious illness.
When she told me what she was paying, I thought it was a lot. Having read this thread, I don't think it's too much.
This is in London. Last time I worked as a cleaner/housekeeper I got paid £4.50 an hour.....but that was years ago!

just bumping this - how often do people get them for as well and what do you expect them to do in the timescale
ie if they came in once a week for two hours how much would you pay and what would you expect them to do
ie would hoovering throughout and dusting plus change bedding once a fortnight be too much??

Unfortunately I no longer have a cleaner, paid her £25 per visit everyother week, she did approx 4 hours.. she was fab...
Hover main bedroom, hall stair landing, clean bathroom & cloackroom, mop floors (kitchen, hall and utility), clean laminate flooor sitting room and dust. Dust main bedroom. plus oodles of ironing.. clean hob. Also clean conservatory if needed...
I miss Lucy my cleaner :(

I've no idea how much she pays her but my neighbour has a fantastic cleaner. I think when they do it as a job they are much faster and more thorough than you could be yourself in the time taken. They don't have the distraction of PTS for one thing. :D

My sister has a cleaner once a week and she just has to go out while the cleaner is there....even though she is still recovering form a serious physical illness.

i would get them whilst at work to overcome that "embarassment" - with working slightly longer hours and sometimes weekends it's now getting to the stage where we could do with a hand - otherwise we spend the weekend tidying / cleaning as well

would love a gardener, although I am not domestic goddess, I would hate someone coming to clean for me. I would worry they would have a nosy round!

I've got nothing worth having a nosy into - lol - a few people at work have mentioned cleaners in the alst few weeks which got me thinking

My friend pays £25 for three hours, she has quite a big house - 4 beds, 2 baths - and in that time she dusts and hoovers all round and does the 2 bathrooms and kitchen surfaces. Not super thorogh because not enough time, not through slowness and my friend thinks it is good value for money.

three bed, 1 bath here but wouldnt want them doing one of the bedrooms

I've used a few cleaners in my time.
have had one who used the phone, one who smoked in the kitchen (my house is smoke free zone even to family and friends!) and one who was only there for about third of the time she was paid to be there
Also had a real gem, but then she retired :( which was such a pity, because once you find a good one, don't let her go :) good cleaners are like goldust
If you pay by the hour it is hard to know how long they are actually there and working, unless you are there yourself or have a neighbour peering out the curtains to spy lol
If you use an agency they are more likely to price by the amount of stuff that needs doing per week/2 weeks
If you use an agency - Molly Maids type thing - you will pay substantially more than finding someone yourself. However, the agency ones usually work in pairs and they bring their own cleaning stuff. Also, if a cleaner is sick or leaves, they are obliged to find someone else to get the job done, although that could be a good or bad thing depending on how many peeps you want in your house. I personally find it easier to deal with a third party, especially if I have any complaints etc, rather than dealing with the cleaner direct

Molly Maid - just seen they offer gift vouchers - wonder if you can email to your OHs as a hint ...

£10 per hour for our cleaner in posh London. Was £7.50 when we lived in scruffy London, but in retrospect the £10 one is about 50% more efficient than the old one so probably works out cheaper!

Gosh Raffles - I think the £10 sounds great!! I wanted a cleaner a while ago but the cheapest I could find wanted £14 per hour :eek:. I know my house is bad but its not THAT bad!!! So any local PTSers who know a good cleaner (reasonable) please let me know!!

I pay £20 flat rate and she's here about 2.5-3 hours.

This is not through an agency - we pay her directly, which is why the rate is not bad. She cleaned the house for the previous owners and we kept her on.

how much would you charge fir this
front garden and back garden - front garden quite small mainly grass - couple of borders that could do with digging out. Back garden around 30 ft long and 15ft wide? mainly grass again - couple of borders need digging out. Its nothing
