One of our Tesco's here in Oldham is currently being updated to become a larger store. They have removed our cafe and is due to be replaced by an in-store Starbucks coffee place in 6 weeks. Has this happened to any other Tesco's and if so, are they reasonably priced or not ?

My local's Rochdale, and I haven' seen a Starbucks in ANY Tesco. I imagine the prices will be the same as they are anywhere else - I though they had standard prices - I might be wrong though. IMO a skinny latte with raspberry syrup is WELL worth the money!

When we went to legoland there was an Asda nearby with a McDonalds restaurant in it where the Asda cafe used to be.

Tesco in Didsbury (Manchester) has got a Costa. Great to sit and have a cuppa and sort out MOC's before entering the store ;)

think they are quite pricey but TBH my local Tesco's restaurant isn't that food and the food is always cold.
think I would be too tempted with a starbucks hot chocilate or a muffin etc

Graham, is that the Tesco at Chadderton? What other plans have they got for it?

Yes it is Tesco Chadderton and is currently undergoing major refurbishment, although not sure why as it was only built about 6 years ago. Anyway, they have made these improvements:
New Petrol Pumps
New Electrical dept - smaller electrical items
New Pharmacy counter to dispense prescriptions from 7am to 10pm
New Freezer section
Larger Home entertainment area, dvd's, cd's etc
Tesco Direct desk for ordering and collecting Tesco Direct orders
...and lastly a new Starbucks opening in about 6 weeks time.

I don't really like the Chadderton store as it doesn't seem to be very well organised. I've only ever seen the car park partially full as well. Maybe they think the changes will bring in more customers, but to me it has always looked as if they had lots of wasted space there.

Rumour has it that the Chadderton store applied for planning permission for a large extension even before the original store was built !
And here's a funny story for those of you who didn't hear it a couple of years ago...The Tesco Extra at Stockport recently had to cordon off 20% of its floorspace...moving shelving and leaving the empty floorspace..well...er....empty with cones around it...why? Beacuse when they built it, it should have been 100,000 sq ft of floorspace but what did Tesco do, they built it to have 120,000 sq ft of floorspace contravening local planning permission. The local planning demanded that they cordon it off and so I now believe 12 months on they have been allowed it after all to have the 20% given back again.

Crewe Tesco is having its cafe replaced with a Costa so no more cheap cuts of tea or breakfasts. It is supposed to bring a touch of italian glamour to Crewe tesco
I expect that many people have now migrated when the old cafe shut to Morrisons which is only 5 minites away, far better menu choose and you can still get cheap tea/coffeee. I expect when Costa does open and people realise what it is like a few more will go to Morrisons and while they are there also discover how much bigger Morrisons is, better groucery selection, good offers and end up doing their main shopping there

then if you are lucky tesco will have to give everyone an incentive to come back to Tesco's. Maybe some points :D etc.

Very shrewd of tesco's. Who would want the hassle of running an in house cafe, when you can lease room to a reputable company.

yup, they used to have a very practical in-house cafe with cheapo breakfasts all round, but now its a Starbucks upstairs which makes it looks quite upmarket seeing people peering down on the shop floor while supping a latte!

They are supposed to be knocking down the Tesco in Rochdale and rebuilding it with underground parking soon. Supposed to start when those bl**dy roadworks have finished.
