i do it and enjoy it
easier than surveys

you get £1 a week although we got £3 a week for the 3 weeks over christmas

i've also won £100 on the weekly draw

I've just recieved an email to join Shop and scan? Is it worth it?

I don't do one big shop a week, just bits here and there throughout the week. Would that be ok or do they just want you scan one big shop or just everything you buy throughout the week?

Any other tips before I sign up?

Should I be honest or add a few children etc to improve my profile, lol? :o

DEFINITELY worth it!! Doesnt matter how many shops you do, big or small, as long as you scan them all & download each week. I've been doing it about 2 yrs, and had loads of vouchers for Next, Argos etc. They also do Petrolpanel - which is similar, just uploading details from your petrol receipts. Dont worry about virtual children - shouldnt think it will make a difference!

I do the National shopping monitor via Tns, they give me a machine for me to scan my barcodes when I shop, I then return my receipts in a prepaid envelope each week. In return I get over £120.00 in vouchers a year. I dont think its bad at all and you get used to scanning your shops. Ive done it for nearly four years and its good to save up for Christmas pressies. Free money really.:D

When my cat died last year, & I stopped buying cat food, they wrote to ask if we still had a cat :(

Can any shop & scan people help me please?

I just did my first shop and when I got home I scanned my name & shop on the cards the scanner didnt beep? It beeped when i scanned the amount I'd spent and on my actual items. Do you think I've mucked it up? :confused:

you should be fine
just do the name, shop and amount for your next shop... just make sure you get a short beep for each

Lol had to laugh at this. I've been a member for ages too but often forgot to scan my shopping then get messages from them whoops. So I do a frantic scan around my kitchen scanning the contents of my fridge and my cupboards, lol!
The other day I realised I hadn't downloaded my scanned items, so did my usual frantic scanning when something made me look in my baby food cupboard and I realised that OH always puts all Jayden's food and milk away before I scan it so i have never scanned any of his stuff.:eek:
They must think either i have made him up or I definately dont take care of him. If they could see his baby food cupboard though they would see he has enough food until he's 18, lol and mummy has points coupons to ensure every space is constantly full.:rolleyes:

Yes, please could you list the numbers I haven't found my way round the shop & scan site yet. :o

I'm getting the hand of the scanning, but the scanning gizmo sometimes seems a bit dodgy? Like it only projects a little red line, then I shake it a bit and it does a bigger line? :confused:

Also do other people find it doesnt like scanning shiny wrappers like bread packets? Is there a knack to it?

i have a few problems sometimes
With multiple items i fine one that scans and then just scan that for how ever many ive bought
Sometimes it just won't scan no matter what you do
some items have no bar code so i just ignore them

at some point you will need to replace the batteries.. you can usually tell when the beam fades and disappears. You just request batteries from them and they send out within a few days

don't forget to upload your clickers saturday or sunday even if you haven't shopped that week

Aarghh! I'm trying to transmit my shop & scan barcodes for the first time and it won't let me!!!

They didn't send me a lead to connect the scanner to my laptop, but my digital camera USB lead fitted it so I thought it would be ok but laptop doesnt seem to recognise it!! (no found new hardware message) and Shop & Scan website comes up with "Transmission Failed [3]
Check the lead is securely connected to both the Clicker and PC and try to transmit again.
If it still fails please contact us."

Can anyone help? Will I lose out on my first weeks scanning?

Should I email shop & scan and ask them to send a serial port lead? Did they send a lead out to everyone else? :help:

i think they send usb leads out now but mine is a serial port lead

on the serial you can only transmit via Internet Explorer

Thanks Dune. I normally use firefox, but switched to I.E. to transmit. :confused:

I'd have thought most USB leads were standard?? It fits perfect.
I hope it works ok with a new lead then.

You know I joined shop & scan exactly a month ago and have been scanning all my shopping like a good 'un but they STILL haven't sent me the correct lead to connect my scanner & upload! :rolleyes:

Is it really that hard to understand that I need a mini usb on one end (to fit their scanner) and a 9 pin MALE serial port conection on the other end!! :der:

They keep sending me a female serial port lead and/or large USB.

I have been doing Petrolpanel for several months now, where do you check the total credit received. I have looked on my shop and scan reward account and cannot see any credit there for petrol panel.

Never received an email advising points awarded and nothing showing on my reward account.
Since I started the only email I have received is when I forgot to send petrol details one week.

I have just emailed them, hopefully it will be a nice boost in points to my account. Thanks for your advice.

it tells you in the transmit box how many codes you transmited and that your clicker is ready to use again

things to remember

use IE browser
enter your correct account number

you should get an email monday to say you have been credited

I think the first time you transmit you should also get a £10 joining fee credited (may have changed since i started)

yes transmit before monday (i usually do it saturday) and you'll get an email monday to say the points have credited

Even transmit if you haven't shopped that week.. you should still get 1000 points

Am new to this all and think I might be being really stupid.

I got my clicker/scanner thing and a lead that has a usb on one end and a serial lead on other. Also got a cd.

Have run cd fine but now I need to connect the clicker/scanner to my pc using the usb/serial lead. I have a free serial and a free usb slot but can't figure out how the clicker/scanner thing connects to this. The only connection point I can see on the clicker is a tiny thing on the side.

I'm now wondering if I should have some kind of adapter that connects either the usb or serial plug to the mini connection point on the clicker??

So could anyone who does S&S please let me know as the helpline is closed now and it's driving me berserk.

it actually says you can have a usb cable if you run windows xp
the flat usb would go into your computer and the mini usb would go into your clicker
I'm thinking you have the usb if they sent you a disc
I have the serial connect but didn't get a disk

sounds like the wrong lead
contact then and they will send another.. they are pretty good at getting things out fast. Especially replacement batteries

not shop scan save ?

if it's shop and scan then you don't need to save reciepts
i don't count MOC

as long as the items have a bar code you should be fine

I had an email to complete a Toluna survey yesterday on behalf of AC Nielson about shopping habits. At the end of the survey they said they had accepted me and would send me a scanner to scan all my shopping and call me once a week. Is this the same as shop n scan does anyone know? Thank you.x

sounds like Fact Finders AC Nielson, which is different to shop and scan. I started Fact Finders about 2 months ago, really easy to do just scan your shopping and put the scanner back in its base. Once a week a computer will call the scanner and collect the info down your phone line, you don't have to speak to them for this. They may call to speak to you initially to arrange delivery of your pack but that's it unless you have any problems. Don't know what the rewards are like yet as just started on this but you get points which you can redeem later for different things for a catalogue.

It's more or less the same as shopandscan if it's a c neilson factfinders. Big diff is that s&s lets you get vouchers to spend in shops and this one has a catalogue. Been doing it a few months but not ordered anything or remember what is in catalogue. It uploads automatically via phone line on a Sat night when you should be fast asleep. A bit more time consuming than s&s but if you are doing one then the extra time doing the other is negligible. Factfinders and homescan sound the same, have a carcode zapper with it that they call a wand. They did phone a couple of times initially to make sure the zapper had arrived and then a bit later to see if all is o.k. Then they forget you.

they pay in gift vouchers and have a large choice

you get £1 a week for scanning plus another 50p for scanning reciepts (this has just started but doesn't seem much) plus they pay 50p or £1 for extra short surveys plus i think they pay extra for petrol reciept scanning

I joined a week or so ago and got my clicker yesterday but it took a few practices to get it right. They are going to think my shopping lists are very odd :der:as I shop to add to my store cupboard and not for day to day shopping. Loads of bulk buys when things are on offer and buy enough till the next time it is on offer.The first item I clicked was the Glenfiddich Whisky which is on offer at Sommerfield's and used the £2 off coupon. Then off to Boots to collect loads of points for a very little spend.

i scan before but i don't think it really matters. They are more interested in averages and trends than specifics

If you notice the high value shops have a £10 spread so they aren't interested in exact amounts

It can't be all that long before the Christmas double or triple weeks begin. Remember my scanner went bang just before one transmit so got nowt for that week. Spare batteries in stock this time though!

I have been shop n scanning for about 4 weeks now. This weekend I noticed that the scanner wasnt working on everything, and when I uploaded although it beeped plenty of times, it wouldnt recognise my transmission.
I have emailed them twice, but no reply, do they usually take a while to reply?

if you're getting a red lite instead of green it probably needs new batteries

things to check (and yep i've made these mistakes often)

if its a serial port connector you need to use IE to transmit

make sure you plug the right connector in (i have a usb mini and the serial port mini hanging here and sometimes plug the wrong one in :))

they send them to you on request. and no I find they usually get back to me the next day.

just got the extra points email :)

We recognise the extra effort required over Christmas because you might have extra shopping to scan and not much time to spare. Because of this we're going to reward you with triple points for every week that you successfully transmit your barcodes by the Sunday evening of the next three weeks. That works out as 3000 points per week.

This means that by transmitting every week you will receive 3000 points on the 15th, 22nd and 29th December instead of the usual 1000.

Yes, I got the email too... good news!

I finally received new batteries on Friday, so managed to transmit last weeks codes and then today have transmitted this weeks. (I try to do it whenever I shop, so I don't forget) I am a little miffed though that I missed out on the points for last weeks shop, I first contacted them on the Saturday, telling them my scanner wouldn't work, then again early last week, then again mid-week. They responded via email on Thursday. Today I have emailed them asking if I can still, please, receive the points for the week before. I am hoping they will credit my account.

I find that reduced items never scan and there are other items that have no barcode. It doesn't seem to matter as long as you record the total spent.
With newspapers maybe it would be simpler to scan the paper each time it's delivered as you know the price of it.

I get my newspapers delivered and pay them once a fortnight or so. Do I scan the amount and save up all the papers to scan or do I just miss that out. Also what do you do about scanning stuff with no barcode eg meat from the butcher or rolls from the baker. I am sure shopandscan think I must live on T bags and coffee and nothing else.:D Also I had loads of reduced items from Sainsburys yesterday and none of the reduced bar codes would scan on my clickey thingie. :confused:

if it hasnt got a barcode you cant scan it so i suppose you'd have to leave out the meat and rolls.

with reduced items i try to peel off the reduced sticker and try my best to scan the original barcode. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

with the newspapers, I think I'd probably just scan it daily as a daily purchase.

Thanks Dune - never me though!

Does anyone do the receipt scanning now? I've done barcode beeping for yonks, and petrol panel for over a year, and just recently they asked me to start scanning receipts and uploading once a week too for another 500 points. So altogether am getting about 8500 a month, plus any extras for the odd survey. Quite profitable!

Happy Birthday from me too. I thought it would be too much bother to zap the barcodes but you just do it automatically now and it is no bother. Spending the vouchers is great. The first few times I took book vouchers from Waterstones but the last twice I have got socks and an umbrella from Next and this weekend I got 7 coffee cups from Next and just paid 50p towards he cost. :D
