Hi a question to you all....i do note that lots of you have reference to the Maldives ie.going back, got a holiday booked.

(I do mean the place , not the person....cause if you were all going to Maldives house to party - i would know...wouldn't i Maldives?! )

When i first found out about the cc deals being able to covert to holidays....i kinda had my heart on MALDIVES - RAA ATOLL.

I have never been abroad. I know lots of you have been, so i am asking that maybe you could pass on your knowledge to me.

1. I want it to be totally luxery...(no kids?)
2. I want it to be warm enough to lay on the sand, but not too hot & def no rainy season.

Suggestions and links to pages would be great! :clap2:

I was thinking this one....its the one ive had in mind since i started to collect for a holiday 8/9 months ago......

http://www.cosmos.co.uk/destinations/Maldives/Maldives-Atolls/Raa-Atoll/The-Water-Villas-Meedhupparu

What do you think? I think i worked it out to 6000 for two of us in the water bungalows...has anyone been. Dont forget i have never been abroad so dont know what im doing...this holiday would also be our secret honeymoon! so its got to be good!
How much more spending money do i realistically need, i do take it the credit cards can be used for back-up??

Yes I can honestly say it was the best holiday we have ever had. The children played in the pool and to be honest quite a few of the 'Newly weds' said it was nice to see a few (and there were only a few) kids! About 8 on the whole island. It was complete relaxation. I was wondering before we went if it would be the wrong type of holiday for our kids, but they enjoyed and were very considerate towards the other people who wanted peace and quiet.
Thats why we are going back in July. Kuredu wasn't available for the dates we had, so we are going to try Meedhupparu. Thanks for the welcome PTS!!

Floosy - great photo's - looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!

Do you (or anyone else know, pls) what the weather is like in October? I see from the resort guide that October has the highest rainfall - but if it does rain - is it torrential or just 10 min downpours?

TIA

I went to Vilamendhoo in November. There are no words to describe it properly. Totally Amazing! Have a look in the deals section under Cosmos. I have posted a report there and some pics. It was all the better as I paid totally in deals :D

A week is too short though. We'll make it a fortnight next time.

No rain, just beautiful blue skies with a bit of white fluffy cloud. 32c at least every day. Not the blistering heat you get in Greece in July. Sea temp 28c. Didn't get bitten at all by sand flies - maybe not the time of year for them. Just got a couple of mozzie bites one eve when we were having a drink and I think I forgot to put the repellent on :der:

Absolute paradise!

Oh my god this thread is making me feel excited, we are off to the maldives on the 30th Jan for 11 nights and I can hardly wait. Sadly not booked through deals as we didn't have enough, and not worth our while paying half by deals as got the holiday cheaper paying cash.

We went November and that is supposed to be quite heavy rain but we didn't get any. However, the main jetty was out of action and we had to use the dive school jetty as the storms ealier had badly damaged it:( Not sure which month that was though. Because there are so many islands scattered across a large area you are generally unlucky to get much rain even in the rainy season. It can be heavy but usually clears fairly quickly.

we went to kuramathi in sept 2005 for our honeymoon and it was amazing. we went with emirates via dubai and that was great coz it meant we got to stretch our legs and do some very cheap duty free shopping 200 cigs for 4!
http://www.kuramathi.com/ we booked via kuoni and they were so helpful and we got a free upgrade from the village to the cottage and spa because of works t being done on the village resteraunt (after the tsunami).

Love this thread......can't wait till we have enough points to book something!

From an info point of view and personal experience.........the rainfall is just one of those things - it's what makes the place such a lush paradise. When it DOES come, it usually just hammers down for 10-20 mins and that's it. And if you've ever tried it, go for a walk/dance in the rain - unlike the UK, it's warm!!

Loved the pic of the gekko - my fave creatures out there especially as they eat bugs and mosquitos!

Maldives was Paradise Island.
Kenya was Papillon Lagoon Reef.

We went to Neptune Paradise Village, Diani Beach, Kenya in March 2007
and Vilamendhoo, Maldives November 2007

I feel for the Kenyans at the moment with all the trouble. Cosmos han't taken anyone out there for the last 2 Mondays, the plane is going out empty to bring people back. I've just checked now and next mondays flight is also cancelled. must be scary for anyone out there.

For Kenya I think September to end of March. The rains come on the 9th of April so I was told by one of the staff! They came early though, on the 1st and 2nd. We flew back on the 3rd. The rain itself is not too much of a problem as its not like here. Its still warm/hot and when it stops the suns back out again. Its the humidity which is the problem April to August. We really noticed the difference in humidity after the first evenings rain. At my age my internal thermostat is very unpredictable anyway but I coped with the dry heat ok, but I found it was very sticky after the rain.

Still fantastic though :D

I am very fair skinned too with freckles so I have to be very careful. I have found taking a course of sunbed sessions 2-3 weeks before I go has worked well and I haven't burnt at all. (I still have to be careful but I can relax and swim without having to cover up all the time). I know sunbeds are not supposed to be good for you but I think used short term before a holiday for protection purposes, is better than burning your skin when you are there.

Ha ha! Don't think so! Harry never seemed to move too far from the jetty as he waited for the fishing boats to return. They usually brought him back some little treats! I bet he's got brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles and aunts all over the maldives. And we thought ours was the only one!
