Hi
I'm not sure whether this is the right board, so apologies if it isn't.

I was hoping for a tent in France - seems we can afford more, thanks to advice received from folks on here to boost points!!

So, we've narrowed it down to Crete (or maybe Kefalonia) or Montenegro - any advice from people who have been to either would be very welcome!

Dds like the beach and a pool, OH and I like to eat, swim and relax. I also like to explore a bit and experience some culture - i think both places would offer the chance to do that.

we prefer uncrowded beaches, but thats probably hoping for a bit much in the school holidays! Don't want to be anywhere with mad nightlife - too old for all that, and dds too young!

Have been to Crete - can really recommend it.

Great beaches, loads of things to see, fab food.

Some places do have mad nightlife - would suggest that you get a copy of 'rough guide to Crete', it gives very good descriptions of the resorts.

Kos is also a great island - we are going again in May.

I too can recomend Crete, lovely beaches, lovely people great food etc

probably 'Elounda' if you dont want it too noisy, have been about 15 times i think too crete- its lovely.

Kefolonia is also lovely and quiter than Crete.

Dont know about Montenegro though, sorry

Well - we were in Montenegro two years ago. :)We stayed at Sveti Stefan on the island and it was wonderful but I see that this hotel is not offered by Cosmos.
The scenery is very mountainous and picturesque. The beaches were uncrowded at Spring Break. We caught public buses up and down the coast to other resorts and had walks around the local area. Eating out is cheap and I would recommend that you experience Montenegro before it becomes too
commercialised.

Thank you people for your comments - we're still deciding, but need to make a decision soon! Both sound great, and I'm sure we'll have a good time wherever we go.

I'd love to go to Montenegro. Been to Croatia a couple of times and was hoping to travel down into Montenegro from Dubrovnik a few months back but didn't make it. I'd agree with Nana, go before it gets too commercialised,Crete probably won't change too much over the years, but Montenegro might in the next few years.

Crete is great, we've been several times to various parts of the island.

Elounda is a very quaint style place with great views and it's worth taking the short trip to the small island Spinalonga.

Agios Nic, good place.

Infact, the only place I'd be looking to avoid is the built up noisy Malia.

I remember going to look around the Palace of Knossos when it was 127 degrees!

If you get a car, there are some great little beaches around.

There's also the beach where they film the Bounty adverts - can't remember the name though.

We were there last summer, fully paid for by Mr T!!. We had a truly wonderful holiday and the only reason that we are not going back this year is that we had enough vouchers to book the AKL in Florida.:D:D

The hotel is definitely not 5*, but clean and impressive all the same. Rooms were not massive, but we only slept in them so not a problem. Food was excellent, plenty of choice, buffet style for all 3 meals. (read the longest review from K Shelton in the link above and that about sums up how we felt)

I've never been to Crete, but we've booked an AI holiday for May this year at

Hotel Louis Creta Princess Club (http://www.cosmos.co.uk/destinations/Greek-Islands/Crete/Maleme/Hotel-Louis-Creta-Princess-Club#) in Maleme

Crete:
I can recommend the hotel Anastasia in Stalis - not far from Hersonissos, we've stayed their twice and its def. the best hotel in the area (cosmos do this hotel)- take a look on tripadvisor for the reviews it gets on there....We also spoke to the Cosmos rep quite a bit and she said the Anastasia was definitely their best hotel in the area

Stalis is also a really nice resort with great beaches and a nice relaxed night life - lots of differently themed bars to go to so plenty to do without the mayhem of Malia and to a lesser extent Hersonissos.

The reason we chose that one is that it's near where we want to be. DH wants to visit the area where his dad's ship went down, although of course we will make a holiday of it as well. It's not so bad with there only being 2 of us.

Grinder, been to Crete many times and its kovely.
why not go in apartments as there is loads of places to eat in little greek tavernas right on the sea front- lovely.
But then again you cant use your deals for eating out in crete ..
Hersonissos is a busy resort, lots of nightlife, 'Stalis' further down the beach road is a bit let upbeat but still lively.
I have not stayed at any of the hotels in that area, only apartments, but its a wonderful place Crete, fantastic waterpark about 10 min drive from Hersonissos, there is a small waterpark on the beach front called 'star beach' but its not brill, no big slides.
Hire a car and explore, its a lovely place, think we have been about 8 times now.
annabelle village in hersonissos is h/b but supposed to be lovely- recomended by a friend :)

Never been to Maleme - its the other end of Crete, so you will be flying to Chania rather than Heraklion.
Looks lovely though Grinder - aww its your honeymoon too- sure you will have a fab time :)
