need a free antivirus/firewall

Hi, does anyone know of a good antivirus and firewall that is free or very cheap?

I use free AVG (ANTI-VIRUS GRISOFT). I've had no problems with it. I'm sure there is a thread on here about free software. Will have a look.

AVG is what all the uni, computer (wanted to say geeks but that's a bit harsh) recommend. It's free and can be downloaded free of charge. We've never had any problems HTH

If you have a computer with windows, it should be there for free in your control panel

AVG also do free anti-spyware software

i run sygate firewall which is free

if you run your connection through a router ..they have a hardware firewall built in and just need switching on

Windoze firewall is for incoming traffic only.
If there is something naughty on your pc already it will be free to get out. :eek:

My aol built in anti virus is due for renewal and i was looking at this thread .Does everyone think it would be better to cancel the aol (£2.49 a month ) and go with the free AVG .So what do i need ? anti virus ( yes i understand this one) firewall ( ? i have windows xp does this have its own firewall ?)anything else ?
I'm not very good with comps , but 12 yr old boy is WAY better than me .
Any advice would be great .Thanks
