My first thought was did it increase your bid to 40.01 then another bidder upped theirs so it took yours up to 50?

Is it possibly someone else put a bid in at the same time? and yours wiped theres straight out?

Thats all I can think of...

Gizmos
24th May 2008, 22:44
there is a problem with the system at the moment and it is doing this

therefore anyone who has placed a bid and then increased it please go and have a look at your auctions - I have noticed it on another one of the ones I am bidding on

have raised a technical question

NOTE that this means EBAY are getting increased fees from this glitch - hence I do not think that they will be in a hurry to fix it

That's unacceptable.

I wonder if they'll be refunding the people whose bids have been increased but who don't complain?

MSE is probably the best place for something like this - bigger audience and all that.

Hope it gets resolved for you.

they have retracted my bid and are investigating - have told them that I am not happy and have posted the information on a few national forums ....

Ebay seems full of glitches, sold 3 items last sunday 2 paid straight away, the other i've been checking everyday, come home to an email asking where his item is, so checked payment status and it says that payment was sent on the 19 th!!! But it was still showing as unpaid yesterday night???

Seller not too happy, guess i'll be getting my 1st neg :(

as far as i can see, this looks ok

each second, subsequent, higher bid isnt displayed until another bidder bids

It looks ok to me too, looking at the times it just looks as though someone else has bidded you up? The other person's name isn't there as they were never the highest bidder? I've thought this has happened when I've been selling stuff, it looked as though someone bidding on my stuff was bidding themselves up, but it ws just when someone else typed in a bid, but didn't become the highest bidder, it just showed the winning person's bid going up. If that makes sense.

I've found out what happened and its because it was a reserver price auction and bascially if you dont bid up to the reserve price it still bids against other people - i fyou increase your bid and it meets / exceed the reserve price it shoots straight to that regardless of if someone else has bidded

was still not happy about it and told ebay this!

Giz - that's why I only ever use a proxy bidder . . . . . .

Glad you found out what happened, even if you aren't happy about it.

Minimum reserve on any Ebay UK auction is 50, it is different on outher countries sites.

If I am putting a marker bid on a reserve auction, I only ever bid the opening amount eg. 99p or whatever it takes to go one increment above the current bidder if there is one.
I then snipe manually - having checked with the seller in advance what the actual reserve is so I know it is withing my budget - or I use a snipe tool such as Auctionstealer ;)

You are quite right too, if this situation occurred in a real auction house and you were the the last bidder, then you would be asked to come to an arrangement with the seller, this perhaps would reflect the market price for the item.

In this case you don't get a choice, it is once again engineered to get people's money.

Fortunately, I believe eBay are slowly going to the wall.
