On the ONE show now - it showed a standard size bottle and said you should get approx 6-7 applications out of it for the average person and says that people are not using enough.

They are doing an expirement to see how he applied it and not done it well enough - he only used half the recommended amount.

Well a larger bottle than the one in the show only lasted me four applications so I guess I am using enough (no its not because I am a large person quite dimunitive really).

Just thought it was interesting especially with a lot of people going on holiday soon

Thats interesting, though I suppose it also depends on how much of your body you are exposing  as to how much you need to apply!!!!

For me its generally just arms, shoulders, face, and sometimes some leg!!! Dont do bikinis, and tend to holiday in the UK so not too much sun to worry about!! :p

I just back from Florida and I applied suncream ALL over before I put on bikini or anything - just the way I have done it for a long time - saves getting the areas around clothes not done properly

I don't know how much I use, I never burn though...Never really thought about it though, I do tend to reapply cos I am always in and out of the water on holiday. Probably a bottle and a half for me on holiday (1 week) and a couple for OH, as he just goes pink....so has very high factor!

Thats what I do, so I never miss a bit! :D

:o I don't put enough on - but then I hate laying on a sunbed so an hour's my limit - have to get showered straight away too as I hate feeling all icky (sweaty and creamy).

I love sun bathing but I hate feeling all greasy so I use piz buin one day long, it rubs in really well and you dont feel greasy at all.

We always use P20 which is a once a day application and have never been burnt with it. It is expensive though, usually buy at the airport. Gone are the relaxing days on a sun lounger now I'm usually chasing the kids around or in the pool the whole time :D.

We used this last year and it was brilliant, kids in the pool all day and it still lasts, have got some more for this year. Is it much cheaper at the airport?

Just back from Greece, and I used one bottle of 50+ for my DS (who is very fair), and one bottle of 25 for me. DS also wears the special tops when he is in the pool, which have 50 factor cover.

We went on a 2 week holiday to Majorca and took 9 bottles (3 each), but it rained for most of it, some came home with 7 bottles!

It's not much cheaper but sometimes they do have offers on buy 2 for so much and sometimes if you check the airport website (I know BAA ones do) you can print vouchers off to save more money. They have spend and save ones.HTH:)

That's interesting. I've used the Piz Buin Once a Day for myself OH and kids for the past few years, used to use the P20 but found out it only protects against UVB and not UVA rays. Prefer the smell and texture too, less oily more creamy and has a much lower "binding time", I think it's 90 minutes for the P20 which the kids found frustrating. Might give the Soltan a whirl next time I have to buy some.

I have bought some and will be trying it this year
We used Nivea on hols lat year but still had slight redness. Some people we met were using Soltan and didn't burn at all.

You are right I read an article that you should use a 5 star uva rating ideally, as the uva is what can trigger the most serious sort of skin cancer, and the article said if you wear a lotion with a lower uva rating you are staying longer in the sun, you may not burn because you are being protected from the burning uvb rays but it is increasing your exposure to the more cancer causing uva rays.

I have always been really fussy with DS's (when they were younger!), always horrifies me on holiday how parents let their children burn, particularly nowadays when we know the potential long term harm from the sun. If you want to do it to yourself then that's your choice, but I have seen kids with blistering sun burn, horrifies me.

Mine had blistered shoulders one year. I'd put the P20 on them, but it was mid afternoon and we'd only just arrived, we didn't wait the full binding time of 90 minutes as they were desperate to get into the pool - and I thought 40 odd minutes would be OK. It completely spoilt the holiday. I felt like the worst mother on earth. It has made me extremely cautious now, as I know first hand what short-term damage the sun can do as well worrying about what long-term damage might have been caused.

I got to be honest i think that is a bad idea as people who do not put enough on wont be reapplying it either.

we always use factor 40+ for the kids and re appy regularly. OH has factor 50 as he has v fair skin and i usually have factor 30. we do go through a few bottles of each every summer but its been ages since we were abroad.
i will be treating myself to some lovely no 7 suncare this year ;) but sticking with nivea for the kids

Does anyone know who stocks the NO-AD brand of Suncream ? I used to buy it when I went to the USA, but when Wal-mart took over Asda they stocked it for a while. Last year my local Savers drug store had some but not this year. A few weeks ago I believe there was a coupon in the Sunday Express for No-AD suncream to be redeemed in Woolworths but my local Woolworths don't appear to sell any brands of suncream. Please let me know if you see any in UK shops.

No Ad is readily available in Asdas.

If anyone is going to Florida, look out for a product called Bull Frog...Its a clear non sticky aerosol factor 36, which is brilliant. My daughter normally fries in the sun, very pale skin, but one application of this in the morning and that was that, even no need to reapply after swimming.

You have a good point:)
Do look at the star rating on the Nivea as last year it was only a 4/5 as Soltan and Tesco own make were 5/5

For the last couple of years we've used the Ambre Solaire clear range. Its just a non greasy oil spray and i think it goes up to F40? Its great, no stickyness, smells great and doesn't stain clothes or swimsuits. We've never burnt with it either.
