Thanks Scottie.
I always look at things before I throw them out, in case I can re-use them.
I use old coffee jars for storing lentils, etc.
Coffee and jam jars are handy for the spices that I buy in bulk from a cash & carry.
Ice cream containers are useful storage boxes.
At one time, people hardly threw anything away.
People used to make rag rugs from old clothes. They would also use unpicked wool for rugmaking, similar to readicut rugs. I had a great aunt who carpeted her entire downstairs, with rugs which fitted together to make a fitted carpet. These were all made out of unpicked wool and she used a sewing machine to stitch it on to hessian. It looked very effective, as she'd mixed the colours well, so there was no variation in colour and it looked like one carpet.
