I have to refund a paypal payment + plus return postage. (OH's fault for giving me the wrong description) The buyer has been OK and it's being sorted out amicably.
Will I get charged another set of fees by paypal?
Would I be better making the payment for services or as a refund?

If you go into the payment details from the buyer you have the option to refund from there and any fees paid by you to paypal will be refunded.
You won't get charged for refunding.
oops just realised you are refunding return postage too. I think I'd do that seperately via a cheque or postal order as they will get charged for receiving your extra payment

Tiger, if you want to try to cover your final fees from Ebay, you need to go into the dispute console (http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewDisputeConsole&ssPageName=STRK:ME:LNLK), paste in the item number and choose the option that the buyer is returning the item for a refund. Don't worry this won't put a bad mark against them, but it's always good to email them ahead of this and assure them of this and tell them than if they respond to the email which ebay will send to them, you will get some of your ebay fees back.
Think Jules covered the paypal question, but just to say that you can't refund your buyer more than they have paid, hence why Jules is suggesting an alternative way to pay them their return postage charge.

But I'd sent them the postage money through the paypal send money option, because Im too lazy to be bothered with cheques. :)
