My cat Marmalade (on avatar) had to be put to sleep yesterday & I am devastated, I know it was the right thing to do as she had been in an accident and lost control of her bladder, had a fractured pelvis & kidney trauma but she was only 2 and it seems so unfair, Im going to be lost without her, she really was the best, she thought she was a dog not a cat though and was so feisty. I just hope she was happy with the decision & knows I did it for her to stop her suffering so much.

Oh how sad. She looks gorgeous in your avatar photo, a real little sweetie. I'm so sorry to hear she has had to be put to sleep. I guess you just know when that is the kindest option, but it does not make it any easier.

Don't feel bad about yourself, you did the best thing for her. It's so sad when a much loved pet leaves us.

 deanshot - I know how we felt when we had to put our cat down because of her ill-health.......it IS devastating, but just remember that Marmalade had the bestest life with you and was a very happy and contented cat......you did the best thing for her!

So sad that you had to make the decision, Deanshot, but it is the right one and it takes true love not to hang onto a loved pet when you know it is for their benefit

I so hope that the sincere good wishes and sympathy you'll get on here help you cope with the loss. You know you did the only thing you could for a beloved member of your family and you must take comfort in that. Marmalade isn't suffering now and you will start to remember the happier times as the rawness of your grief diminishes. And it will in time.

Welcome to this forum, you will find some of the kindest people you could ever meet on here.

You obviously provided all the love and care a cat could want, and that includes taking that horrible decision at the end. I hope that at some point you might be able to provide a loving home to another cat who needs an owner like you.

So sorry to hear your sad news - we have three cats and I would be in pieces if I had to make that decision, but you were right to think of Marmalade even if it really hurts. Thinking of you.

:grouphug: I know how hard this is, I had to do the same for my old cat a few months ago, and I probably left him too long.:(

I have found getting another cat did help me ( 3 kittens!!!) I waited about 6 weeks, but needed to have cats about, but everyone feels different.

I still miss my old cat, don't think you ever stop loving them.

Sorry to hear your news - you did the right thing the poor little thing must have been a lot of pain. I lost my cat in October last year & I still miss her. We have a new cat now - he's a right monkey & very different.

:grouphug: so sorry for you loss i.ve had to do the same with a dog after an accindent. not a mark on her but the car hit her head. i've also had to put a cat to sleep who had lung cancer. you feel so guilty after even when you know it was the best thing to do. just think of marmalade running around kitty heaven. i always find that helped.

So sorry to hear, our pets are just so much part of the family. It would have been so cruel and selfish not to have come to the descision you did, and you wouldn't have been able to watch her suffer. I think it is the last thing we can do for our pets, to make sure they suffer no more.
Thinking of you and sending you big hugs.
