You've just been to the opticians and had to get new glasses - what do you do with your old ones? Throw them in a drawer and forget about them or (even worse) throw in bin???

STOP

VISION AID OVERSEAS (VAO) recycles second-hand spectacles in this country, by sending them to those less fortunate overseas. VAO takes glasses in good condition only.

VISION AID OVERSEAS (VAO) recycles around 90% of second-hand spectacles in this country. Package them well and send to:-

Vision Aid Overseas
12 The Bell Centre
Newton Road
Manor Royal
Crawley
West Sussex RH10 2FZ

You are supposed to be able to hand them into your nearest optician - however, do you think they actually send them on (just my opinion!).

another idea - if you work for a reasonable sized office how about putting a poster on your bulletin board or sending an email to your colleagoues - then ask if your company will cover the postage costs??

Definately - I've been nicknamed the Eco warrior at work - keep leaving posters on the bins detailing what can go in and what cant - some people are so thick that they cant see a paper recycling bin next to a waste bin so I have to point out the difference! I'm always loading my bag up with cardboard from the office to take home and recycle as well! haha

That's a great idea, to put up a poster. I bet there are lots of people who have specs that they don't like to throw away and are sitting in a drawer.
When we cleared out my dads things, we found some specs belonging to my mum who had died 12 years earlier.
We gave them to a retired vicar who made regular trips to El Salvador, taking various things with him to help the people.

Hi all

Does anyone know of a charity that takes glasses. We have recently cleared out my in laws home and there are lseveral pairs of spectacles.

I thought I had read of a charity that sends them abroad somewhere.

Any suggestions.
