Got a few brochures today for holiday inspiration - looking for a week in Nov or Dec - needs to be hot and sunny and reasonable price. Have been to all the Canary islands but don't mind going again.
Anyone have any suggestions please - and would all inclusive as a solo holiday maker be a hassle ?
Thanks.

Do you think AI would be best for a singleton? If your hotel is full of couples, families, children, none of whom are your type, you might be very happy to walk out to another bar, another restaurant. And it would be a great pity to pay the AI rate and then eat outside the hotel and pay again.

Unless you are going for a rest, and intend to spend all your time on a sunbed reading, I'd wouldn't tie yourself down to just your own hotel.

Any cheapish cruises going? Last minute can be quite inexpensive, but singles are dearer :(

Thanks - that was my worry about AI - don't intend to do much more than read, eat and drink really.

If u like clubbing maybe go to an AI in a busy resort - Tenerife & Gran Canaria will have some close to the action - then u can rest up, sunbathe, eat & drink & then go out later

Cheers Debbie - just not sure how the eating alone would be on AI - all couples and families I think.

I went on my own to Majorca for a week in May, the idea being it would be complete R&R, nothing to do but read a book and watch some DVDs. Hotel was H/B and I used to take my book down to read over dinner.

Problem was that the rest of the hotel was either couples with young children or pensioners. The pensioners felt sorry for me on my own and would either join me or "force" me to join their tables. Bless them. It was quite well intentioned but I would rather have read my book in peace in the corner :o I also found the restaurant a bit like a school canteen, which wouldnt be my first choice.

If I did it again I wouldnt go H/B as it would have been nice to go off and find little restaurants where I could have chilled out on my own in peace.

Also, if you are booking a single room, mine bore no resemblence to those in the brochures, less than half the size and in the worst position in the hotel. Make sure to ask where/what the single rooms are like before you book.

Were are we going Tuckerpoo ?

Hannah thanks for the advice, I plan total R&R too - I've stayed in numerous hotels on business where a table for one is the norm - as you discovered I'm not keen on people taking pity on me and forcing me to join them, think I'll go SC and avoid that hassle. It's true about single rooms, often interior rooms with no view or balcony.

Hi Markat

Yes, when I have travelled on my own before it has been to business hotels rather than package tour hotels, there was a world of difference! It was a mega cheap deal though, just over £200 for the week H/B, but I wouldnt do it again!

SC sounds like a good idea if you dont get stung massively for single occupancy.

Good luck with finding something suitable.

Why not check out Sharm el Sheikh or Hurghada- weather supposed to be good in November (not too sure of December). Not too long a flight (5 hrs).

Most of the hotels are large and AI - pick a large hotel and there may be lots of activities going on which you could join in (if you can be bothered).

Also there would be evening entertainment as there is nothing much outside of the hotels.

If you have any tesco vouchers accumulated, you could offset the cost with Cosmos.

Just booked it !!
Off on the 8th December to Gran Canaria for a week, half board but room has a fridge for wine chilling purposes lol !! Ground floor with a terrace in a 4 star hotel - bit nervous going alone but sure will get some new friends round the pool / bars in no time !!
So excited had to share the news - not been away for so long so while the rest of the country is Christmas shopping and panicing think of me on my sun lounger sipping a cold drink.
