Awwww Sian you are so nice

Rachskate - If you'd like us to send stuff to your fiance, please shout, I'm happy to do a box for him too.

A reminder for everyone - Please don't send anymore to my brother - he is coming home sooner than expected!!!
I'm really pleased he is coming home, he is being transferred to special forces - which unfortunately does mean he is likely to be sent back sooner than expected!

Thanks all for your support. :grouphug:

Oh dear Polo I sent your brother one today! I knew I should have got it sorted sooner. What will happen if he's left, will it get sent back?

Polo
6th August 2008, 19:25
You should be ok Britchic, I've just sent him one too, they are taking about 10 days - if its stuff he won't/can't use before coming back, he will pass it on to those staying or leave for the replacement regiment.

Oh good. Just didn't want it coming back to me! I've had them sitting round half filled for the last week or so, just getting the last bits and pieces.
Oh and it weighed 1.97 kg!

holliemon
7th August 2008, 08:44
Oh I am glad he will get it as mine only went off yesterday as well as the one for poppys son. I have been to the PO twice and never got the weight right. I ended up taking toiletries out and filling up with sweets and biscuits etc. I also found some of those magic face clothes that are really small - kept in the toothbrushes and toothpaste but had to take out talc and shower gel.

Can i ask what kind of box you use - will a shoebox be ok?
Also- can someone pm the address of the niece so I can send a girly box too?

Christina if you would like my nieces addy just give me a pm ....i cant believe so many people are so lovely and kindhearted to send all these parcels out to all the lads/lasses out there...its such a boost for them and its quite touching to know that people back home are thinking about you and have taken the time and effort to send you a parcel....to everyone who has sent something i'd like to say "A Big Thankyou" and its greatly appreciated...by those out there and their familys back home

Could we maybe have a list of members who have a willing contact for receiving these boxes somewhere on one post that can be updated as people return home and others leave? If this is going to be a regular thing we ptsers are doing maybe set it up as a sticky with members to be pmed for an address on post one and suggested list of goodies and rules on post two? Only a thought...........

Thats what I've been trying to do on the post above. But yes might be an idea if people are keen to have it as a sticky and put the above in the first post.

I don't mind keeping it up to date, I think its a great idea!

Hi Sian, Sorry I don't know, I've emailed my bro and am waiting for a response for you!

Just been reading the update on my brothers regiment - seems they have been having huge water fights - now as it is so hot out there, it might be something at Michelle's neice or Ploppy's son might appreciate - just a cheapo and light game :D

Anybody? sorry I know I am a pain with all my questions lol:D

Paracetamol is on the list, but not Ibruprofen, so not sure about that one.

Here's a list of no no's http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/mail_prohibitions.htm

The Maximum Weight for parcels is 2kg.

We recommend that you restrict your parcel to 1.8kg to ensure that it falls well within the restriction when wrapped.

Size is also restricted -
Max: Length + Depth + Width = 900mm, with greatest single dimension not more than 600mm

Min: One surface at least 90mm x 140mm.

We recommend that you use a robust shoe box for packaging - ladies or gents shoe size 6 to 7 boxes are ideal

Prohibited Items

Aerosols, Alcohol, Glass Items, Perishable Goods, Lighters and 'Top Shelf' magazines and books are amongst the items which are strictly prohibited.

Unsuitable Items

Home made food items are not accepted, nor are items which are unsealed or partly used. All items should be new, unused and unopened. Sell by dates should be checked and should have at least six weeks remaining to allow for possible delays in delivery.

Don't forget a message of support :)

Hi Everyone.

My son has emailed and said he has received about 6 or 8 parcels and a big thankyou to all of you.
Those of you that put your contact details in will be getting a personal thankyou as soon as he has a spare minute. So for those of you that didn't he says thankyou from all of his mates as well.
He says there was some really good stuff in the parcels and they are all very appreciative.

Hopefully he is out there just until the end of the month and then home for a a couple for months.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks from me as well:D

Polo, I received a lovely note from your brother saying thank you for the parcel (He had only had one when he wrote it....the other 2 will have been a nice suprise!).

He said it had hit 55 C so far and was due to get hotter

Nice to hear that they will be home soon :clap2:

Glad they liked the goodies, the sweeties (haribo treat size) seem to have been a hit and had been shared out. Bless.

Bet they are overflowing with Haribo!

I got them originally as someone mentioned sand getting into everything and I just thought how horrible it would be to lift out a handful of haribo and find it coated in sand :puke:

ohh I love this drink.
Bring it back from the states each visit.
They do it in small sachets to add to an amount of water but this is better for a glassful.
I like the ordinary lemon too.

wasnt sure where to put this so its in here :D

the x factor christmas song hero's is on sale soon (might be already) and all proceeds are going to help troops who have been injured.
now the song is naff (lets be honest), and really there should not be any need for this charity as i think our injured troops should automatically be helped in whatever they need by our goverment. however reality has shown us this is not the case so i urge you to go and buy this song and support and help those who were injured. whether you agree with us going to war or not the troops simply do as they are told and many pay a high price serving our country. please support them.

(you could always use moc to buy it from tesco thats my plan:D)

I was going to suggest you could send them to me and I would deliver them but I think it will work out too expensive. Can't we set up a PTS chain to get them to your nearest collection point. The site doesn't seem to encourage posting parcels to them (prob due to postage costs) and seems to prefer you to make a cash donation, but that doesn't help get the H&B pile down does it!

Well you could do both.....as protesting certainly doesn't seem to be getting our troops home!

At least by sending gifts out to them they know that they are not out their on their own.

Another thought is, try not voting labour again and then we might just get them home!

Im going with my two 17yr dds to cheer him and everyone else on, hes swapped the boots for trainers cos he got a knee injury and he has turned the combat trousers into combat shorts:), hes raised well over a thousand so far so he is really pleased and motivated....he said there are some guys on the H4H team (over 300 runners) and it makes you quite humble when you hear what some of them have been through, theres one guy running who has got his brothers place who got killed last year....i wish i had the money to sponsor them all !! but i admire anyone who takes part in the marathon...should be a great day:D

Hello everyone, feeling a bit sad, my brother has just been posted away again, I can't say exactly where (the spies are everywhere apparently) but I know he really appreciated the support from shoeboxes last time, and this time is likely to need them even more as where they are posted there isn't access to shops etc.

If anyone is still looking to send a shoebox, feel free to pm me for his address. And if you also have relatives serving, I pray they return safe and sound, and if they would like a shoebox, post on here and we shall see what we can send :)

Awwww thanks Michelle  He will appreciate it!

Big thanks to floos - he got your box ok :D

I know he is finding it difficult as he is not on a base the majority of the time, so doesn't have creature comforts - last time he was at least in a room etc!

Its lovely for him to get things from home and a short note, just helps bolster spirits and he is sharing out bits with his colleagues too :D

Thanks all

Just received this email - obviously dont know if it is true but I have passed it along just in case it is true

See what you think

Recently, British Royal Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees, and to request that
they send some of it to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Royal Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it,
and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should support them by NOT buying any of their products!

I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground, fighting street-to-street and, house-to-house.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along.

Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more.

Sgt. Howard Wright,
1 Platoon, Recon Company, Royal Marines

PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS... PLEASE PASS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR E- MAIL LIST, IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE BEEN WOUNDED, LOST LIMBS AND EVEN DIED, SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE !

Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit, the fire fighters and
rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers, and Starbucks CHARGED THEM!!!

AN ADDED NOTE TO THIS: STARBUCKS HAD STORES ON SEVERAL MILITARY BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS.

There are 227 Starbucks stores across the UK , and there's no doubt that our soldiers would get the same response from this company, so let us do our
bit and boycott Starbucks to show them how despicable their actions are.

given the "Wounded" program that was on last night - think that this is a timely reminder for this. With the glitches season upon is it wont cost a lot to spread a little happiness ...

My brother is finally due home next week, so grateful he will be with us for christmas, and hoping he will be around for a while next year before being posted again.

A big THANKYOU to all those who sent parcels, this tour of duty has been particularly hellish, and he has lost several close friends/colleagues, I know the parcel were appreciated and the spoils were shared between his regiment.

If you are able to parcel something up and send it, please do so, it doesn't have to cost a lot, but means a lot to our service men and women. We might not agree with the war, but its a way of showing we support our troops.

thats fab news hun Im sooo glad you will all get to spend christmas together!! I agree our boys and girls really appreciate the parcels, my cousin we sooo pleased with the ones I sent to his regiment a few years back (he has left the army now). for me it doesnt matter what the war is about / how it started / if is it wrong its just about showing our troops we appreciate the work they do and the risks they take for others

Have just sat and re-read this thread, my brother has been posted again :( and I wanted to get some ideas of bits I can send!
There's loads of ideas, things I hadn't thought about for a while, seems so long since he was last posted.
Am thinking of him, and all of our service personnel serving, hope and pray they all come home safe xXx
