Hi!

A few months ago we purchased some baby carriers off ebay. They were from a German seller. They came fine and have been used. Today I got a letter and an email stating the following:

Recall because of danger to life Dear customer Safety is a huge priority for us. We therefore ask you not to use anymore and to re-give the Bergpfeil baby carrier of types V1033, V1011, V1022 and S07, S08 as well as TS08, T1 to T9999. You can find illustrations at www.tasko.de/recall . There is danger to life! We determined within our quality proof that on the above mentioned types exist a safety risk. By using the rain cover of the baby carrier there is the danger that your child suffers from a lack of oxygen and dies or will be affected in health. Independent from using the rain cover there exists the risk that the baby carrier is not stable on the basis of the supporting frame; that small parts, which are fixed on the baby carrier can be swallowed by children; that laces from the baby carrier may strangle your child as well as the risk that the baby carrier is easily inflammable. Also herby there is danger to life and to health of your child. We therefore voluntarily decided to recall the mentioned baby carriers immediately. We will refund you the purchasing amount inclusive postage, of course. In case that you have given the baby carrier to third party we ask you to forward them this letter and to inform us about the names, the addresses, the email addresses and the phone numbers of your takers. We kindly ask you to return the baby carrier as follows: I. Put the information from the section below with your complete details on a paper and put it into the baby carrier. II. Prepare the baby carrier for a collection so that it is ready for dispatch. III. We will arrange a collection free of charge for you by our logistics partner Parcel Force from an address named by you. Please give us the following details in written (by email, letter or fax) that we need for the collection: 1. An address from which Parcel Force is able to collect the sending from Monday to Friday at normal working hours.2. Your phone number (mandatory field from Parcel Force)3. Internal reference number 43205107 Please note that a collection can only be effected under consideration of the complete details. These details will exclusively be used for the collection. After receipt of the complete information we will arrange a collection immediately. We thank you very much for your support to deactivate the risk, which unfortunately has been determined afterwards. It all sounds ok, up until the part where they ask for my bank details. What do you make of it?

Hi Princessa

Did you pay by PayPal? If so I cant see any reason why they shouldnt pay you back that way. If you ask for a cheque you will have to pay a foreign cheque fee but I wouldn't give them my bank details. It looks legit but then again.....

Just re-read the bit about Paypal but they dont need to do it as a refund, they can do it as a payment using your email address, I have sent money to SIL like this before.

It is true I think that they couldn't refund a particular transaction 60 days later, but they certainly could pay by email address only using Paypal. If you actually did buy this item and are understandably worried about the message I'd ask them to do that. After all you used Paypal in the first place so that your details wouldn't be revealed.

I would contact Paypal about this, as well as the good advice you've had already. Don't send your bank details there is no need if this is genuine. Have you googled this to see what else has been written?

Thanks for all the replies! To be honest, I don't remember buying them. We bought two, but it was my dad who wanted them, so I don't remember if I bought them on my ebay name, or if he did. He's had the same letter, so I'm thinking I maybe bought them, and had them sent directly to his address. Hence why we've both got letters. Am looking through my feedback to see what is what. But I think I'll ask them to paypal the money, I'm not keen on giving bank details out. From what I make of the email, they'll arrange a courier to pick them up, so that seems alot of expense if it were a scam. But will have a google and see what is said.
