BritBrat

Try this link:

http://195.68.41.204

You will need to click the UK flag top right.

If that works it is a DNS/ISP issue.

According to a WHOIS querry:

http://webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=ipoints.co.uk&WHOIS+Submit.x=0&WHOIS+Submit.y=0

They either forgot or decided not to renew their domain name.

Also their company accounts are overdue at companies house

If they come back on-line I would get any rewards you have been saving for if you can.

I'm probably scaremongering but for a domain to lapse for a web company is very odd.

Oh no I was on there last night as I am still waiting on £30 of Debenhams vouchers that were ordered at the start of Debenhams, I have almost enough points for another £30 of vouchers and am still waiting on another 5000 points, and was umming and ahhing last night about ordering £20 of the supermarket vouchers, please dont say they have gone otherwise a few of us would have wasted money on bingo sites to receive nothing.

They were brought by a French company I think (in 2007)

http://www.maximiles.com/ their site seems fine.

Might be best to ignore me! Everything will probably be fine.

i put it down to the gremlins ;)

princesskerry

I really hope so, thankfully I have only signed up to a few bingo sites so would probably just about break even. I cant get on the english site at all through any of the links mentioned but it was working last night as I was on for a long time and put the enquiry in about my missing vouchers and points.
It wouldn't surprise me though if you are right as I think almost four weeks is a long time to wait for some vouchers so I'm wondering if they are sending them at all. :noidea:

If the domain registration has expired you can only go there is your computer or ISP remembers where the domain was.

It won't work for everyone until iPoints renew the domain name.

After a while even if you can visit it at the moment it will stop working for you. As the computer or internet service provider vary the amount of time they "remember" where a site is before looking it up again to save time.

It would cost iPoints less then £10 to renew for a year, so its probably a bad admin error that they forgot.

I have enough points for about £120 vouchers so I really hope they haven't gone!

i think we will. they've took the xmas banner down and updated the latest rewards. I dont think they shut for xmas as i ordered and received the 241 emi voucher (dont bother!) after xmas and received last week. I've also had ipoints credited this week.

I would have thought you would have contacted them if as you say you've been waiting ages for HMV vouchers - they say up to 14 days! I thought you could only not access site today?

princesskerry

Oh no I really hope it's okay for you, thats a lot of vouchers.

I have given them the best part of nearly a month before I started an enquiry about the £30 Debenhams vouchers as I thought being xmas things may get delayed, but now I am starting to wonder if they have been lost in the post. The last vouchers they sent me were sent normal first class post, is that normal as I dont know if I would trust normal post to send vouchers.
When I get all my points I'm due and change the points I have I would be due another £50 - £55 in vouchers so with the missing £30 I would be about £80 down.

My guess is this will be to technical for you but change one of your DNS servers to opendns server.

You may have to register as I am not sure but it is free. :)

http://www.opendns.com

You may also have to set up your connection details manually.

It may help if the people with the problem posted who the ISP is and see if they are all on the same one.

Won't help. (It is a good service though)

Your quote shows the domain registration has expired.

This is the reason why it is not working.

The only people it is working for are people who have it cached.

Yes but you can't clear your ISPs cache of the location of the ipoints server.

If iPoints don't renew the domain, even yours will stop working probably within 24 hours, but the time the ISPs DNS servers retains the information varies.

They would have had to decide in November not to renew so its very very likely this is just a stupid admin error on their part.

It would the most stupid way for closing a business ever, as they would have never decided in Nov not to renew then keep trading until it stopped working !

They will be back. (they are just idiots for letting it happen)

I can get on to ipoints ok, but I haven't been getting any emails or surveys from them for the last 3-4 weeks. I emailed them a couple of days ago, and they replied saying that I have blocked them from my email, but I haven't!!

thanks britbrat but your right way too technical for me :D:D I only have a couple of thousand points with them (even though I am still waiting for my 5000 from jackpotjoy that never paid up) but it is a shame for peeps that have lots of points or are awaiting vouchers from them.

You are right, it is down today.

Off to register name as it may be worth something.

Just joking.

I did go to check :)

It may expire if they do not renew it soon.

There is a temp solution posted by helmet-head on the MSE

If it's desperately important that anyone needs to visit the site, it can be done. Here's how I did it. I offer no warranty on this - it works for me on my Windows XP PC. It may or may not work for you.

First, click Start, then Run. Type:

notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

The dot at the end of the above line is important. When the window appears, you should see a dozen or so lines starting with #. If so, add this line to the bottom of the file.

195.68.41.197 www.ipoints.co.uk

Save the file. Now open your browser and type www.ipoints.co.uk. It should work.

When you've finished, be sure to repeat the procedure but this time remove the line, otherwise you may have trouble when/if the site comes back up.

This will work if followed correctly, and you visit www.ipoints.co.uk

I would have beaten you to it if it were possible yet.

Then I would blackmail iPoints for 1 billion points.

I will take your word for that but can't see it working myself.

All that does is tell your system to take www.ipoints.co.uk to http://195.68.41.204 the french site.

So clicking http://195.68.41.204 should do the same thing.

EDIT:

Oh I see they have another IP: 195.68.41.197 for the UK site.

Still not convinced.

When you've finished, be sure to repeat the procedure but this time remove the line, otherwise you may have trouble when/if the site comes back up.

You do not have to remove the line:

Just put a # before it.

EXAMPLE:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

# 195.68.41.197 www.ipoints.co.uk

I take it back it does work.

Can anyone explain why?

I take it back it does work.

Can anyone explain why?

The IP address alone (195.68.41.197) tells your computer where their server is.

But their server could be serving more then one site on the same IP address. so it uses the host www.ipoints.co.uk that is send with your request to determine what site you wanted.
