Hi all

Were after a new TV and was wondering if anyone knew of any good deals around at the moment please?

Have been looking at the following for a start:

Toshiba 42IN 42XV553DB 1080P Digital LCD TV - £499

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5367188/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav %7C12108813/c_2/2%7Ccat_12108813%7CTelevisions%7C12108983/c_3/3%7Ccat_12108983%7C40+and+42+inch+LCD+TVs%7C121089 92.htm

TOSHIBA 40XV551D 1080P Digital LCD TV - £499

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/513660/TOSHIBA-40XV551D?cm_re=homepage-_-tab1-_-product3

Apart from the size is there much difference between them, as don't know exactly what to look for.. I know the contrast ratio is important and the higher the better..

Many thanks

At a glance,i would go for the Toshiba from Currys as this one has a better Contrast Ratio,30000:1,whereas the other one is 25000:1,my previous lcd was a Toshiba(and was very pleased with it) I managed to get a Sony 40" from Argos in the sale, just after xmas, just had a quik look and its gone upto full price now!! Anyway we love the new Sony, great tv,and was voted "best" in What HiFi mag,and the picture is outstanding when watching Blu-Ray films.A quik google shows you can still get the Sony KDL40V4000 for the same price i paid, just slightly more than the two Toshibas. Hope this helps

Of the two listed I also think the one from Comet as well.

Barcode what price did you get the Sony for ? This is the TV we are after (last two TV's have been Sony and they are ace) but am getting huge price variations. Up to £200 difference.

Just spotted the TV we got at Xmas posted here (http://hotukdeals.com/item/321925/sony-bravia-1080p-kdl-40v4000-for-5/) - We are very happy with it and have it mounted on the wall.

If you find a TV at a good price and John Lewis stocks it, they will normally price match it and include a 5 year warranty for free.

We bought the Sony KV40V3000 - last June which I know has since been updated to the 4000 range and we love it - full hd, great sound only great picture.

Very useful to know is that Dixons will price match any other internet company (as long as they are a registered supplier ie. not ebay) so we ordered through Dixons and they price matched £170 lower than their advertised price - no quibble - I personally preferred this rather than buying from an internet company I had never heard of.

This is the best deal I have seen in a while:

Samsung 40" 1080p LCD TV + 3 years warranty £538.39 @ Argos - Here (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5366206/c_1/1%7Ccat_12108813%7CTelevisions%7C12108983/Trail/searchtext%3ETV.htm?storeId=10001&referredURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fstatic% 2FProduct%2FpartNumber%2F5366206%2Fc_1%2F1%257Ccat _12108813%257CTelevisions%257C12108983%2FTrail%2Fs earchtext%253ETV.htm&jspStoreDir=argos&referrer=COJUN&cmpid=COJUN)

Thanks to Benaldo on HDUK

"Although not advertised it comes with 3 years warranty though not sure if this is standard for Argos TV's?. Worth £150 apparently as the cashier tried selling me this before I found out it was free!!"
