Hi i hope someone can help me. My husband had a psp for christmas from argos, he had to return it today because it has stopped working, but they were not very helpful didnt really want to know. They gave him a helpline no and said it was nothing to do with them, so he came hope and rang the no, and they are collecting it next week and replacing it with a reconditioned one. My daughter cannot find the receipt but she paid with her card so he took the bank statement with him. Just wondered should we have to accept this? Thanks for your help in advance.

If you bought a new one and not a recon, then they can't just fob you off with a recon. Stand your ground and insist on a replacement. I'm sure there must be somewhere to check where you stand legally, but not sure where.

Surely the original psp had a warranty / guarantee card . . . . that would have confirmed the guarantee

(you have a minimum 1 year by law . . .)

DO NOT accept a recon one . . ask for a full refund - or a new one

Have a look here (http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html).

Don't let them fob you off, you are entitled to a refund/replacement and they know it.

thanks for all your advice i wanted to make sure first that we didnt have to accept a recon one, as we had purchased a new one. Ithink i will have to go back tomorrow and argue it , once again thanks for your quick replies.

When you say paid with card, was it with a credit card because that gives you extra protection, because they are as liable as the store. I always tell people to always pay on their credit card, even if they have the cash-Pay on the card then go to the bank and pay the cash off the card.

Hmmmmm, you have had it 2 months, so unless you can prove it has an inherent fault they have the right to take it away and repair it. They may well be offering you a recon one to avoid you being without for weeks.

Just watch the guarantee on the recon one tho, as it has been known peeps with a 1 year guarantee take it back faulty after a few months and get a replacement which is recon and guaranteed for 3 months.......
