Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone here had ever won any good competitions and if they had any advice. I did win a Smash Hits T Shirt and a Profoundly in Love with Pandora record when I was 13 (going back a bit here) and a small helicopter toy from Sky (really wanted the luxury holiday but DS was very happy as he was only 2 at the time).

I'm moving this to the General section, as there is no option to reply to threads in the Competitions section :)

My best ones were tickets to see Arsenal play in Italy but I couldnt go so OH took his sister.
Then she won tickets to see Arsenal play Sheffield United and as she was working as a steward she gave them to us!!!
We had our own box and champagne, choice of menus and a programme plus free drinks it was fab!!!
I also won £200 worth of shopping vouchers last year and my Hubby won £200 worth of dog food but that was a few years back.

I won a vip day out at a premier football game for two, a huge treadmill, a psp and two games, an i-pod touch and a Tassimo coffee machine in a free to enter Carlsberg comp just before Christmas :clap2:. I've also won an England footie shirt and cinema tickets in the past.
In answer to your question on how to win comps i think entering them helps lol. I suppose if you enter more obscure ones from less popular mags etc you may stand more of a chance. Good luck :).

You need to enter approx 50 plus a day to gain about 1 a week and the best place to start is mse.
I did this last year and got over £1000 in prizes its just a case that some prizes are a bit naff but I liked the excitement of getting a parcel through the door.
I won mainly dvds, a couple of ds games, some security for the computer, bags, loads and loads of makeup, more dvds, t shirts, several goody bags, some unusual head gear, cleaning products, perfume, hair care products, Ipod vouchers, shopping vouchers free holiday and lots more I kept a full list as it makes it more fun when you can see it on paper.
They made some great Christmas pressies too as we have a large family.:p

best one I wan (this was over 10yrs ago, I was comping big time) was a full set of Meyer saucepans.... really posh they were, I still use them now. I priced them up at the time to buy, approx £300, I'd never spent more than a fiver at that time on a pot! Thought I was choc!

I've won some good stuff over the years. The key is to find competitions in magazines and newspapers which basically nobody reads! A friend of mine used to work on a sci-fi magazine which ran loads of competitions and he confirmed that they often didn't get enough entries to cover all the prizes.
Last two things of scale I won:
2 business class tickets to Bangkok (worth c £4,000) via CityAm, a free newspaper given out in London
5 nights at Reethi Rah, the most luxurious resort in the Maldives (worth c £7,000) via Brummell, another free magazine sent to City workers. You had to buy your own flights with this one, which would have put people off entering. We only got back four weeks ago.
I also won 2 business class flights to Moscow (c £2,000) from BMI last year, but I couldn't use them as we'd just had a baby. I was hoping they would be more flexible with the prize but they weren't.
The first two were both e-mail competitions so I didn't even bother with a stamp. The BMI one was at a trade show where they were exhibiting, just dropped a business card in the box.

I agree that you need to really spend a lot of time and effort on entering. I enter hundreds of comps a week and win fairly regularly. My best win to date being £25,000 cash which I won almost 2 yrs ago :) You have to really go at it and not just do it for a few days and get fed up.

Does anyone use the autofill type things on firefox? I hardly enter comps anymore as I can't be bothered, so I've jsut installed an add on, but there were a few to choose from and the one I've downloaded seems a bit confusing. Would like to use one as it would make it easier to enter comps!

1) Week in New York for 2 including flights, stretched limo with TV to & from JFK, hotel, tours (boat & helicopter), dinners at excellent restuarants, a broadway show + $1,000 spending - 1st prize from of a cider company (hence the 'Big Apple').
2) Mountain bike, again from (another) cider company.
Are you beginning to see where my expertise lies? :D

I have only just started doing comps and do about an hours worth a night. I started at the beginning of this month and have won little things - £10 book voucher with a tub of ice cream, a step brothers dvd and a transformers dvd and fleece blanket. so on average a prize a week. Not big things I know but i wouldnt have them if i didnt try for them. It is hard to sit and do it every night when you want to do other things and a couple of nights I have not done them. A few people on mse have won loads every month!! Its amazing

I rarely enter comps, but my best wins have been £500 in an Equitalk comp I didn't know I'd entered and a year's magazine sub to Back Street Heroes where I just popped my name into a box. Oh and my £600 win on the TAB no-lose bingo!
All your holiday and that 25K prize are amazing - I'd love to win something like that but don't have the patience to enter millions of comps.

My biggie - I won £5,000 from a Simply Be prize draw (3 weeks before dd3 was due so couldn't go to the award ceremony and they were lovely - they even sent me flowers when dd3 was born!)
I've also won £50 in Bella, duplo zoo, tiny tears, £370 on jackpot joy, box of fabulous bakin boys muffins, hamper of spam goodies, loads of silly stuff. Enter endless comps, about 10 a day. Lovely when you win! Gotta be in it to win it!

I enter hundreds each week. I haven't had any amazing wins yet, but I have won plenty, and keep trying in the hope the big one might come along..
Some of my wins: Fish Tank, Bike show tickets, Rally tickets, Razorlight tickets, Trinny and Susannah magic knickers (lol), books, shampoos, cleaning products, watch, ipod speakers, posh face cream, Faith shoe shop vouchers. I started about 18 months ago and I reckon I have won about £700 worth of prizes. Some have been great gifts for my family and some have gone onto ebay.
Some hints, set up your email account with your name, address, dob, phone number and email address on it, so when you enter an email comp, you have already filled in all the information. I use an old, spare mobile phone for comps, I never credit it, but keep it live so that I dont get any junk phone calls on my home number, although if you always make sure that you tick or untick the right boxes you shouldnt get too many spam calls at all. Download roboform, and have all your details on there so you can fill in your details in the push of a button.
Doing things the way I have suggested means I can do in the region of 75 comps per evening, in just a couple hours.
Good luck, its very addictive x

I am quite lucky, started comping last year and won about £3500 over the year.
This year we've won a mountain bike, jumbo bean bag, years supply of popcorn, 4 dvds and a few other bits...
The main site I use for comps is MSE, its a huge site, but the comps forum is nice and friendly. I am Mamzie on there too.
Main thing is to get a web email - I use Yahoo, for comping, and a form filler program is a huge help.
I'll give you a direct link to the comps sections as its hard to find your way around to start with. If you read the sticky Comps Guide first that has lots of tips. And if you join MSE then you can click thanks to know what comps you've entered. Roboform and an extra comping email are very useful.

I do enter 100s a week through, by using firefox, snaplink and roboform.

I use firefox for comping with snaplinks as a addon, and roboform for filling forms. Good hints and tips on the comping guide sticky on MSE.

I helped my parents with their entry to win a new fitted kitchen (didn't need one myself).
Only problem was that it didn't include fitting, so I was the one who had to fix them, alter the plumbing/electrics, re-do all the wall tiling, etc.
