Its so sad isn't it. I must admit I also thought she had gone into remission. Don't know why, maybe because she has been very private about her battle. My thoughts are with her family

Very sad news.
Think she was in remission from the first lot of cancer, but last year they discovered that it had come back, and it was not treatable. That was part of the reason that she married her partner.

I have just been looking at the paper online and seen the photos from Wendy Richards' funeral.
Can anyone explain the wicker coffin please????
Is it made from environmentally friendly resources or something? Not heard about /seen anything like it and it is very distinct.

I saw the coffin on TV. They said it was because she didn't want a tree to die to make her coffin.
I just googled and found this (http://www.wickerwillowcoffins.co.uk/) on wicker coffins.

Thanks Tiger :)
Thats cool!!!!
I also think cardboard coffins are great for cremation but not practical for carrying around for burial though.

Lol. Yes it does a bit.
Regarding the cardboard coffins, I've never seen one but imagine that you could reinforce them to make them strong.
I once saw a programme where someone was making furniture from cardboard and they said that three layers of cardboard glued together is as strong as wood. I think it must have been the sort with a corrugation in the middle as they put them in different directions to each other.

Very sadly I was at a funeral today and the young girl had a cardboard coffin - her wish and it was absolutely beautiful :)
It was highly decorated and you would have no idea it was cardboard.
This is unfortunately the second funeral I have been to in a month and the other friend also had a cardboard coffin - both DH and I have said we would prefer this too.
One funeral was a cremation, the other a burial.
Apparently a cardboard coffin takes a person up to about 20st - amazing, but as Tiger said, they are as strong as wood.
You can have all kinds of designs from what I have been told, only issue at the mo is they are more expensive than a wooden coffin which is a bit ironic being they are far more environmentally friendly.

I am guessing it is recycled cardboard otherwise there is probably not much less wood in it that a ply wood coffin, also the processing etc involved in making the card would make it worse than wood if not recycled.
Its so bloomin difficult to be green!!

But they are naturally degradable therefore ideal for burials.
It is part of a Green burial where when you go you are buried in a woodland setting with just a tree [native to this country ] to mark the burial place, and a very small plaque so when the "graveyard" for want of a better phrase is full it is a woodland with seats for those who come to visit.
my sister in law s relative was the first burial like this i went to and it was beautiful, she had a cardboard coffin ,very plain but SIL had decorated the inside with stencilled flowers as this is what they loved.
Me I like the wicker ones.
