Has anyone here got one or know of anyone with one? We currently have a cockapoo who is adorable and we are thinking of getting a second larger dog! I really want him/her to be non or low shedding hence the poodle cross. I dont know anyone with a labradoodle, from surfing the net, they seem ideal and some are very cute (some are too poodley, but maybe I am being too fussy!)
Thanks!

Afraid I cant tell you where to get one at the moment but I would say if you dont like them too "poodley" then you should ideally see both parents to give you an idea what the pup will turn out like.
Used to be quite invovled in the "doggy" world but not for some years now.I used to show 3 gundogs.

We have a westiepoo (westie cross poodle) and he hardly sheds any fur...just the odd bit when he has a big shake...We saw both mum and dad and the house he came from ...he is now 7 months old (currently has a lamp shade on his head as he had the chop on monday) but he is adorable...

i think it also depends which way round the poodle is...with ours the mum was a poddle and dad a westie and all pups were black if you go the otherway round and dad poodle and westie mum then they all come out apricot...maybe the same for labradoodles too...so may be worth finding out if they come in different colours, we knew we wanted a black one so had to find a breeder that had bred that way...

OK! Thanks everyone! I found a labradoodle rescue centre which I think would be our first port of call as dh is keen to resuce a dog rather than get a puppy...cute as they are.
Our cockapoo (cockerspaniel poodle cross) is just gorgeous and only looked poodley when she was clipped the first time as the groomer did a terrible job!
There was a cockapoo at our puppy training class who looked nothing at all like our puppy! She was sleek where as ours is shaggy.
Thanks again!

I seen one or 2 of these as theres a breeder not too far away.I actually saw one last sunday whilst out walking it was adorable:) the ones i have seen havent been that curly haired though both of them were very bouncy much like labradors!!
Something like a patterdale would also be good as i know someone with one of these and they have asthma so i know these are very low on hair loss

I just read Marley & Me! Oh dear! I had two dogs growing up, a chocolate lab and a golden retreiver. As ours is a cockapoo, she is a small-medium dog and I would love a large dog again. Lottie 's mum was a cocker and her dad was a Minature poodle. She is black with a white chest.

Rescue would also be good as you can 'see' what you are getting both temper wise and looks.
Don't know if you can get a 3/4 lab to 1/4 poodle cross, to try to 'dilute' the chance of it looking too poodley. Might be an idea to speak to a well established breeder who has been breeding for a while, as they will have an idea of what their 'line' is likely to throw up looks wise as there will be an established strain.
Have to admit though, as far as your cockerpoo is concerned, I've seen some pure cockers look like poodles after a bad clip  :D.....go on, post a piccie of her :p

We have been considering a dog for a while now - I have always wanted a Cocker Spaniel so would love to know what made you choose a cockapoo? Does it prevent them casting?
Didnt know about Cockapoo's before I read this thread so now scouring net for photo's!

The labradoodle resuce is here:

We chose a cockapoo as they are extremely cute, good temperament and meant to be non-shedding. However, as most good breeders/owners will tell you, they do shed, just not as much. I couldnt cope with the hair that retrievers and labs produce! Also that shaggy look fits in with us in our slightly chaotic house and lifestyle!! We thought we wanted a small-med dog as dh's dad rescued a retired guide dog who was massive (he was a lab cross) and seemed to take up so much room in our house! I do miss having a large dog. DD2's best friend has a boxer who is just goregous!
I dont know how to do piccie, I'll try and figure it out to get a piccie of our dog!

This is Lottie and dd3! Notice dd3 has her trousers on wrong! Lottie had recently been clipped, difficult to take piccies of black dogs! They just dont show up! Not a brilliant piccie but I cant find any others!

Aww Lottie is lovely!
Bit surprised as how expensive the cross breeds are - some are twice the price of a pedigree. Still trying to convince O/h!

My cousin has a labradoodle and its a lovely dog. They are ideal dogs for children that have allergy problems too....
What exactly do you want to know about them as I could find out for you from her.

I have a labradoodle, he is a first generation, he is fantastic...Hughe mind you but great. He has a coat that sheads (because of the 1st generation, go for a F3 or higher is you want the curly non shedding coat).
He absoloutly loves water, mud, ducks, cats and children he is 10 months now and we go to puppy classes weekly.
His cross was a Standard black pedigree poodle and a chocolate pedigree lab (mum), so the black genes come through and is a blacky/petrol blue colour with a brown beard! lol.
If I can help in any way or you want to see some picture pm me.
Leeann (have put him as my avatar do you can see him)
