We bought a 2l bottle in costco for about £12 I think. Expensive but cheaper than elsewhere! We eat waffles every Sunday so go through quite a lot!

I have maple syrup in my porridge every morning (well used to:rolleyes:) and couldn't believe the price increase at Tesco recently. I've also been looking around and seen that Asda's is much cheaper. Unfortunately don't have an Asda near by so am planning on doing an online order and stocking up:D Unless someone comes up with it cheaper else where (No Costco near me:()

I use it recipes as well and i find the flavoured syrups don't work as well.
may have to resort to these if I cannot find it in asda.

You are right it is so expensive. The last bottle I bought was £4.99 in tesco. I have stopped letting the kids help themselves on their pancakes as once they got through half a jar.
Will be glad of all tips that come up on this thread.

Pookie - - just remeber a couple of things . . (which you won't like I'm afraid!)
There are many different qualities of Maple Syrup . . .so you'll never get a 'good' one cheap (you get what you pay for basically)
and
Nearly all Maple Syrup is bought from the growers in $US - and as the £ has devalued about 25% against the $US - - all Maple Syrup is 25% dearer than it was!!!!

OOH I may have to disagree with you G&F.
how do you define a good maple syrup?(talking pure maple here not maple flavour)
maple syrup is usually priced in grades,A being the most expensive,I prefer a grade B as it has a stronger maple flavour.
I think its all down to personal preference and have seen it compared Wine, some prefer a full bodied one others prefer a lighter, fresher wine.
With regards to the price the one I used to buy from Waitrose went from £2.99 a small bottle to £7.99 for a bottle with 25mls less in it....that's some increase.

Yes it is from a Cactus. Here is the one that they sell in Tesco:

I'm pretty sure it is in the wholefood section. I quite like Agave, but I mainly use xylitol on cereal & when cooking.

Pookie, if you want low GI, try xylitol: http://www.perfectsweet.co.uk/
I get mine from the FreeFrom section in Sainsburys.
Its natural & just like sugar but lower in calories and doesnt affect you blood sugar so great for diabetics too.

Ha Ha I was googling it as you were writing it!
I might give this a try though I think it might be the one they use in W.W sweets...if so I have major side effects with this, I took some to the cinema once and had to call in sick for 2 days as the "ahem" laxative effects were so bad.
I notice they(medical studies) seem to think it has other benefits such as helping calcium absorbtion and preventing inner ear infections, interesting.

Yes, it is great for your teeth too as bacteria can't grow on it. It is also anti-candida too.
I am lucky I can eat as much of it as I like but no after affects! :p
Be aware though that, like dark chocolate, xylitol is poisonous to dogs, so keep it out of reach of any naughty dogs!;)

I've used the maple flavour syrup in porridge and it is fine for that, would say it is a bit sweeter so you don't need so much.
I was lucky and managed to get some good maple syrup on 'offer' in a local supermarket whilst I was in Canada in January....so bought 4 cans of it :)

I've bought this too, had it with bananas in a pancake last Tuesday. Given the price of maple syrup it's a good alternative.
