Hi,
Any help here will be greatly appreciated. We want a holiday abroad this year around October time but we don't know where to go with two young children and can only really afford to do it using deals.
What are people's experiences of various resorts? We don't mind where we go as long as it isn't too far, plenty for the kids to do and historically interesting for the parents too. Not too tall an order I hope:rolleyes:!
Thanks.:help:

You can order the cosmos and virgin brochures from their website, thats what I've just done for next year hopefully. Have a good old read of them and see what takes your fancy.

It really depends on lots of things, like how much you are spending, weather, length of flights, interests etc.
Our first family holiday was to Majorca, and it was perfect for us, but it might not have suited you. Like mamzie says, do a bit of research then come back and folks will be better able to advise. Part of the fun is in the planning :)
One good tip though, all inclusive is great for a first time, when you are on a budget, especially with kids.

Thanks both I will have another look. I am just daunted by the whole prospect of taking them abroad I suppose.

We always found October to be perfect for weather with the kids in Majorca, and Spanish mainland (Salou and Benidorm). Canaries would be fine too in October.

Spie . . . don't be daunted - not for one moment . . .

Millions of families holiday abroad every year . . . . look at it as a wonderful opportunity to experience new things (with your children)

I regard every day as something special - - and try and get something special out of every day

Go and pick a travel agents brain if you're really starting from scratch hun. They match people to hols all the time. Just don't let on you've no intention of booking with them :)

You're right! I will do that this week. Don't know why I didn't think of it myself:rolleyes:.

There's French Life, for the next few months at any rate - there are a handful of Center Parcs in France that you can book through them. We went to the one in the Loire Valley in October last year, when I was able to sit in the hot tub/jacuzzi-thing and watch the snow!

We went to Rhodes mid-September last year. Although we have not got small children any more, there seemed to be quite a few little ones around.
The Greeks seem very fond of young children, which was lovely. The weather was really lovely, yet not blistering hot. Some families at our hotel had their tots asleep in pushchairs in the evening, which seemed quite nice, as in our hotel their was plenty of room, as the season was nearly over, so the evenings were not too noisy or crowded.
The flight was just over three hours, from Gatwick, so not too bad. Although the flight home was in the early hours, which must have been hard-going for the parents.

Safe beaches, child friendly hotels and restaurants. I loved Rhodes and cannot wait to go back

We have just been to Lanzarote to Sun Tropical holiday village with 6 mums and 8 kids ( 6 boys and 2 girls) We have had a ball! The accomodation was fine but basic as always for s/catering. Whe we booked in on the first night the children were all given wristbands and everyday of the holiday they got free soft drinks, free icecream and free crisp type snacks. You can imagine what a saving that was for us. The entertainments team are non stop and the best fun ever and you could put the tinies in one club (have id cards so they always get picked up by a authorised person) and the older ones have a club called Wavelength where they are continually occupied. I could not fault it except to say the town is a courtesy bus ride away but worth going as the beach was beautiful. You may find the pool cold as well as it isnt heated but its ginormous. You can book with First Choice. I was granmother but my daughter and the others were all on a budget and managed very well.

Just to add to all the good advice already given. If you are going in half term week choose a resort that doesn't close for the winter .We went to Rhodes last year and although the hotel was fantastic the resort was dead:tumbleweed:

I'd vote for a P&O cruise on the Ventura. Children will love the clubs and not want to come out to be with adults, and Mum and Dad will love the peace (and the food, drinks, entertainment, etc).

I second that, and because food's included it works out cheap IMO

I'll third that! Beware though, if your children are under 2 you cannot leave them in the kidsclub on sea days. You can use the creche at night though. Also, on port days they will take children under two but obviously, you must remain onboard during this time.

We have been on cruises pre and post children and enjoyed them just as much! My DS first went at 18months and it was a very relaxing holiday for us all - even more relaxing now they are that bit older, they don't want to know us. We actually had to have words with DS last year when he was 6 to tell him not to cry when we came to collect him from the club otherwise we wouldn't send him again lol!

Awww thanks all of you. It does really help to have others' opinions. I had never thought of taking them on a cruise before:cool:. Now that's a thought and Lanzarote sounds good too.
My problem now will be i'm spoilt for choice:D

go for the aqua blu hotel in sharm, great for kids of all ages, the hotel has a full sized water park and 4 pools, one just for the kiddies with slildes for them, my LO of 3 loved it
