Oh has always done his own hair and now he does DS's as well, saves a fortune if fork out for a decent hair trimmer thing, it will last for years, OH has has his Wahl for 25 years and is still going strong.

Some colleges offer cheap treatments of other sorts too - massage or whatever beauty treatments the students are learning. Not sure if I'd want a bikini wax from a novice, but I'm sure they'd like folk to experiment on! :gbxtank:

I had my under arms waxed at the college unfortunately it left a big hole in my skin but has now reduced to a much smaller hole but never went back for waxing, have had massages etc bril for the price but it's so difficult to get a booking as you can at ours only book 4 weeks ahead and soonas you try to book all the appointments have gone.

I just cut DS2's hair tonight - it looked alright, must have been OK as he didn't scream when he looked in the mirror(!) - and I cut DS1's and DS3's hair last week. They don't look bad at all, I cut it in quite a longish style, deliberately, so it doesn't have that 'just cut' look.

I can't be that bad at it as they are happy for me to cut it when need be, including my 16 year old who could just as easily pop down to the barber. When my boys have had their hair cut 'properly' at a barbers I have never been that impressed, if anything they always over-cut it so the boys feel too shorn!

And I cut my DD's fringe sometimes. She is 14 and her hair looks better if cut in a local salon, but what with school and my work, I can't always get her there in between proper haircuts (even though I think they would do a fringe trim for free for a regular customer).

I think they have a training night at the salon once a week but have never tried it...yet. Many larger salons with apprentices do offer cheaper cuts on a 'training night' so you don't necessarily have to live near a college to benefit from this.

I tried my local college for hair cuts etc and they worked out more expensive than my usual hairdresser, who is a mobile one. £22 for short hair highlights - not the cheapest!!
