My brother in law is an appliance engineer, and he maintains that Zanussi is the make he is least likely to be called out to for repairs.
Also have a look for codes for Dixons and others to save some money, and also have a look at Quidco for cashback.

Miele are mentionrd on the other thread - not cheap - mine was nearly £600 5 years ago....but it's worth it's weight in gold! It has never broken down and there are 5 of us and 2 play cricket - and that's a lot of washing. Previous 2 machines were Hotpoint - good...but regularly needed carbon fibre brushes replacing at £35-£40 a go!
I would definitely recomend!

I have a Samsung machine and recently had a massive breakdown after just 3 years, but I have 4 sons and they do test it to the max! I had Currys whatever happens insurance which had already proved its worth after 6 months when my toddler son decided to swing on the door and completely broke it off. Anyway, the repair man said to me the most important thing is to buy Tesco washing machine cleaner (£1.99) and do it once a month, it will extend the life of your machine by years. We'll see....

Didnt know Tesco sold a cleaner will look out for some next time.
I have a miele worth every penny I love my newish machine and would certainly recommend them.

My washing machine packed up at weekend, as I was on a budget, I popped along to tesco on Sunday and bought an indesit at £245, previous I had a bony hotpoint which lasted 9 years, I'm hopeful this may last as long.
I forgot to purchase the sunday mail to take advantage of £5 saving and forgot my £8 off a £80 pound shop so was a wee bit gutted at this.

Always good to look at offeroftheday (http://www.offeroftheday.co.uk/search.asp?order=price_inc&search=bosch+washing+machines&pp=50&h=0&cat=&brand=&shop=&min=0&max=0&np=) to see who has the best price and to find any codes you can use. I then usually go through quidco or topcashback to get a bit extra.
Also good when you find machines you are interested in is Reevoo (http://www.reevoo.com/browse/product_type/washing-machines) if you don't have access to Which.

There are a number of cashback sites - Quidco, CashbackKings, Topcashback . . . I suggest you need to decide what make of washing machine you want, then which model, then find out which retailer stocks them, then research which cashback sites offer rebates with which retailers

My OH and washing machines are a disaster, it breaks down 6 times a year. It's got so bad we keep a spare machine to plumb and use for the week while we are waiting for the repair man to call.

In my experience Indesit have a 'h' missing form their name (somewhere after the s). Will be going for a Zanussi or Bosch next time.

I am really pleased with the one I had from John Lewis. Its their own brand and you get 3 years parts and labour with their machines.
So quiet, and each program tells you how long it will take to complete. Very good, easy but adjustable programs.

Would agree with this. Mine broke down within the first year. Motherboard (or whatever the washing machine term is) problem which Argos said was not economically repairable. Gave me a gift card to the value but I was less than a year into a five year extended warranty which cost £75!

I'd just settle for one that could take the abuse it gets. We constantly have problems with bra wires, socks etc getting stuck were they shouldn't and having to call out repair man. Dosen't help that machine is used over a dozen times a week. But with 4 women in the house and work uniforms it's never off.

I had an indesit which lasted for 12 years and was still going when i got rid of it so bought another which lasted 2 years !! i have bought a hotpoint now and that seems alot better quality.

we have 5 of us including 2 cricketers - they play 2/3 times a week.
had a miele for 5 years - no problems. bloke in local family owned firm (since defunct - boo hoo!) said it would still be working in 10 years! I've probably already done 10 years worth of washing in it!:eyebrows:
Looks round for some wood to touch!
