Will have to tune in on Friday and see!

I went to see him live a couple of months ago, he was very good. Left the theatre wondering how he did it then.

Polo
9th September 2009, 23:48
ok, can someone post how he did it, cos, erm I'll be a bit otherwise engaged on friday

He is so clever!

I saw him last week in Leicester Square but didnt say anything as he was on the phone and ran off into the cinema...maybe filming for the events?

Derren Brown is an illusionist isn't he - so he's not psychic or anything (I seem to recall he denounces psychics as charlatans or magicians).

So there must have been a simple method, a trick. That's what he does best.

We saw it and felt that what appeared to be balls with the numbers on may not have been individual balls (he never picked them up did he?). Maybe the whole stand with the 'balls' on was a wired or wireless monitor into which he somehow programmed the numbers as they were drawn. Handheld device or something which changed the face of the 'balls' to read the right numbers?

Then he turned the stand around - et voila!

numpty

it's there a time day?

Dominic

time delay so he could get the numbers?

I flicked between channels at the time and it looked live!

rainbow
10th September 2009, 08:58

The numbers he had predicted were for last night's draw, and we didn't get to see them until after the draw was made. Would be great if he'd told us the numbers for the next draw! :D There would be so many winners we'd be lucky to get a 1 each though

Defineitely some kind of trickery, it would have been more believable if he'd let us see them just as the draw started.

junglie
10th September 2009, 08:59
Ohh I missed it. Did he pick the right numbers?

rainbow
10th September 2009, 09:01
Yes, all six, but we didn't see them until after the draw.

junglie
10th September 2009, 09:05
That is freaky. Has to be a trick.

Think you could have something there......didn't he write the numbers down on a piece of paper in numerical order AFTER they were drawn, THEN turned his stand with *the balls* round? Maybe the paper was an interactive screen of some sort linked to the string of balls. Why didnt he write them as they came out? Because his balls would have been in the wrong order then!

Khufu
10th September 2009, 11:54
Surely if he'd have someone else to change the ball numbers off stage if this were the case?

Khufu
10th September 2009, 11:56
He deliberately played wiht a couple of the balls as he picked them up to give you the impression they were independent of the stand.

I don't believe what he said about Camelot preventing them from revealing beforehand - as he wouldn't be revealing only predicting.

Personally I think he just hypnotised everyone at home, he is so good as a hypnotist.

SuzyWoo
10th September 2009, 11:59
I think the key is he predicted the numbers AFTER the draw had been made! The whole 'Camelot won't let us show the numbers until after the draw' was a giveaway imo. As they said on the radio this morning, it's a trick otherwise he wouldn't be showing us lot, he'd be in a tax-haven somewhere hot! Great trick though and can't wait till tomorrow to see how he did it.

SuzyWoo

Snap Khufu!

Khufu

He is open that he's not supernatural or anything, he does say he uses hypnotism, suggestion, NLP techniques etc, and its not 'magic'

IIRC, when we were all busy watching the live Lotto transition, we couldn't see the stand with the balls on it? Audience would have been concentrating on the balls being called.

It seemed to me there was also a delaying tactic with Derren waiting to write down the numbers in numerical order.

I too can't wait to see how it was done!

Khufu
10th September 2009, 12:02
Snap Khufu!

Wow, we should get our own show!:D

I can make some incredible predictions for the coming year with my special powers:
we will
have a thread titled 'help please' with no explanation in the title within the next week
Dom will run a sage like 'friendly advice thread'
Plax will go on BOGOF
Clubcard 2 will end shortly and we'll have multiple threads about it.
Gizmos will threaten everyone about the multiple threads and spend hours tidying them
up.

its easy , just after they broadcast the numbers the frame froze , whilst your watching a freeze frame he nips accross sorts the balls out , comes back stands in the postion he was in before and then the broadcasts jumps back to live ,

He didnt predict anything ,never has never will .

I will predict he will will prove me wrong on friday :)

Dormouse
10th September 2009, 15:11
Thing is, he said, "I'll show you how I did it on Friday, and you can try it yourself", which could of course be a red herring, or indicates that whatever he did does not involve complicated techical trickery, as we wouldn't be able to do that at home.

If he hadn't said that, I would be thinking along the same lines as Coupon-madder, something to change the balls or the numbers on them afterwards.

But in a word, I haven't got a clue! :D Can't wait to see it tomorrow.

did anyone see 'The System' where he kept predicting the winning horse of about 10 races and told one woman which horse to bet on?

I went to see him couple of months ago and he got me up on the stage, put me in a straight jacket.. took my shoes off and made me do all sorts of weird things. -- I'm completely in love with the master and he has got very soft hands and shiney shoes.

I saw that too - he is one clever dude!!

I've seen him 2 or 3 times live & he baffles the hell outta me - my brother was involved in one of his acts when we went. The tearing down the newspaper one where 1 tiny bit was left with the word he'd predicted from the beginning - well freaky.

My OH also had to stand up when he was recalling the phone directory - he said ours wasn't in it - we were adamant it was. Guy helping him on stage said nope not there (had a book to check). We came home & found out we weren't in it.

However he does his stuff he's a genius. Very good artist too

Will probably record Friday nights show and watch it, without the adverts :D

I wonder if it is something to do with the fact that he had his had over his mouth when all the numbers were produced.

i watch the horse racing thing.

I'm still not sure either, he doesn't really want anyone to know how he did it I think. Very very clever either way though.
Anyone fancy joining the PTS Lottery Prediction Club, you have to not be thinking about winning the money though and in a trance like state lol.

He He, people would be thinking about the prospect of winning though. Imagine if this was true and people were able to copy it, 6 numbers could turn out to be worth just a few hundred pounds as so many people could win. :eyebrows:

That woman was clearly hypnotised, as was the man stamping on cups.

The whole thing about wisdom of crowds is true and some recent reseach showed that you can replicate the effect of it by simply acting as your own crowd -making many estimates and then averaging them

HOWEVER

It is about estimates not guesses - estimates are educated guesses about something that can be established NOT random things. So it works wiht guessing the weight of a cow; how long a bus will be before it arrives; how many beans in a tin etc. becasue some of the estimates will be above and some below, but none will be like 1 because that is obviously not how many beans there are: each one has to be a genuine estimate.

Total gip, he didn't tell us and he said he would
