View Full Version : Virgin online manage my booking !!

 Don't ever ever change anything on the online booking once you have got your tesco's vouchers showing - I just tried to add an excursion to my holiday and all my tesco's discount disapeared - completely, and the balance to pay was showing at over £4K.......

After a 30 minute panic phonecall to virgin (yes in india), they've put it back on again - but my stomach was in knots untill I could see it online again.

I think I might have to attack the wine lake to calm down.

What were you trying to alter?

Not funny !!!, I just added an excursion that I wanted to pre-book, decided I couldn't be bothered to phone them up. That worked well !

Poor you Jane! Thanks for telling the rest of us, I would have been  as well if that had happened to me.

Ive heard of this happening before- if you alter anything online, including trying to pay part of the balence you can sometimes loose all the discounts pplied- means you have to call up and hopefully get through to someone who understands what you are going on about!

Booked our hols but nothing was mentioned about seats, how does this work?

Been before with another airline and had to choose our seats at check-in which ended up me and oh sitting at each end of the plane. Obviously with lo dont want this to happen.

Thanks

If your flights are within the next 355 days (or similar can remember exactly) you go to Virginatlantic and enter your booking ref etc to access the seating plan. You then choose what seats are available and book yourselves in. I always keep a check now and then on mine because if they change the plane all reservations are lost. You can also book your return flights and enter all your passenger info which saves al ot of time. You can then check in online 24 hours before (and still change seats if you want).

Excellent - thanks

Just a word of caution though, these are requested seats and not booked...ie they are not guaranteed. If Virgin need the seat for someone with special needs for example, you will get bumped.

I should also have added that if you look at a website for 'seatguru' it will show you the potential layout of the plane and will give you details of all the good and bad seats, eg limited leg room, next to the loos etc.

You also can't book bulkhead seats in advance.

We booked ours last night, less than 8 hours after we booked the hols. If you go to Virgin Atlantic, and manage your flights, you can book the seats using the reference number they should have given you.

Exit row seats usually available at check-in for £50 each although if you've got a child you won't get one

Is that the reference number on the confirmation letter?

Sarah-Jane2

You'll need the booking number that they were supposed to give you at the time you phoned, the booking reference number doesn't work. It's 6 numbers/digits long. Can you see that anywhere on the confirmation letter? If you can call and get that (if not on the letter). Then, go to www.virgin-atlantic.com. Then 'Manage Your Flight', then Amend Booking. Type in your booking ref and Name into the boxes on the top right hand side of the page. It'll then give you the option of choosing your seat.

Which site are you trying to manage your booking on virginholidays or virginatlantic

Sarah-Jane2
30th May 2008, 21:13
It needs to be Virgin Atlantic. You won't be able to book seats that far in advance I don't think though.

pollyanna_11
30th May 2008, 21:15
I think its 11 months from your return date.

Flo
30th May 2008, 21:18
There are options to manage your booking on both websites but to prebook seats you need to log into virgin atlantic. You should be able to reserve seats 11 months in advance. If you are using your virgin holiday ref number to manage your flight on virgin atlantic it will say not recognised and prompt you to put in more details and then you should be able to amend your booking.

If its VS website then its 11 months from the return date. your VH booiking ref should then work, or if you as VH for the locator number that will work too.

VH booking ref is in the format. 12345/x08
VS locator is alphanumeric and 6 digits rg A543D1

Thank you all for your help, finally managed to book - have chosen two seats towards the back of the plane, DS is 6'4" and cannt afford an upgrade so thought if he had the window seat it gives a bit more room, not sure I want to take a chance with a bank of 3 seats, as it means sharing with someone unknown for 11 hrs!!

Hopefully the pre-seats will be honoured! I remember we were on a flight to Las VEgas from New York and I ended up in a middle seat surrounded by a mens stag night (front and behind seats included). I asked if they wanted me to move so they could sit next to each other and he said no. Dont fancy doing that again!

You can purchase the emergency exit seats at twilight or normal check in for £50 each if you fancy doing that. They wil normally give you the window seat free if you pay for the middle seat as the door cuts into your legrooma little.

I think you can do manage your booking (https://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/manageyourflights/updatebooking/index.jsp) or online check in (https://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/manageyourflights/diycheckin/index.jsp)

These seats definately feel roomer and you can stretch your legs abit along the side of the window, we always book these now. Only downside is your last off the plane but worth it. There is room to get up and walk about a bit at the back aswell and you get a good choice of dinner before it runs out:D

Keep an eye on the seats especially as time gets close in case they have changed the palne as all bookings are lost. As soon as checkin opens go online and get yourself booked in. Your seats are then safe and you can still use twilight check in. You can also enter all your advanced passenger info anytime before which safe a bit of time. Dont forget your return seats and check in at Downtown Disney the morning of your flight to hopefully bag your seat and get rid of your luggage :D

Although our holiday is booked with Virgin we are actually travelling on Singapore Airlines, does anyone know if we can pre book seats.

sarmia

I would give Virgin a call and ask them, they should be able to give you a contact number to enquire. Definately worth a shot.

Can you elaborate a littleon the online check in please?

Will be flying from Manchester, does that make any difference?

Thank you.

would definitely recommend the online check in, and yes you can use it if you are flying from Manchester. Usually opens online 24 hours before departure and will save you so much time when you get to the airport, you won't have to queue as there is an allocated line for online check in. Saves loads of hassle.

do you get tier points (with Virgin) to go towards silver/Gold membership when the airline is not Virgin?

Not 100% sure but I think it goes if your flight ticket says Virgin you get tiered points, even if you fly with a dif airline?

Sarah-Jane2

Hummer's right. We got points when we flew to Hawaii, as Hawaiian airlines are affiliated with Virgin (and we booked through Virgin). There's a list on the Flying Club section that tells you which airlines you also get points with.

Thanks Hummer and Sarah-Jane2 (have repped), i know you get air points but the TIERED points is what i am unsure about (likewise Virgin holidays when i called to ask).

My husband is on the silver status and is aiming for Gold with Virgin (which status levels increase via tiered points ~ 2 points with economy each way=4 tiered points and 8 with Premium).
We went to Barbados/St Lucia with Virgin holidays (thanks MR T) in May and got tiered and airmiles credited to our account.

We want to book for Thailand but it is showing Thai airlines etc as Virgin do not go direct. Hubby only wants to go where it will contribute towards his tier points (fussy man).
Will be the 3rd holiday booked within a year!!

we have booked for Orlando for Xmas and now have nearly enough for another holiday but still undecided:pts-cheer:

As a Flying Club member, when you fly with Virgin Atlantic or some of our partner airlines, in addition to earning miles, you will earn tier points.
