I have never used a sniper but think perhaps I should so that I am not pushing up the price of auctions too early.

Hi G&F, scourour

Sound interesting.

What happens if someone else is sniping on the same thing as you?

you can both snipe - you get to set the time you snipe

if I sniped at 5 seconds to go with a bid of £10
you sniped at 6 seconds to go with a bid of £11
my bid would not register
if G&F then sniped at 4 seeconds to go with £12 he would win
if he sniped at 8 seconds to go with £12 he would still win - its like bididng by proxy (if thats the right word)

hmm think Ive made it sound confusing

I think i get it, so you can't have:)
will have to check out a sniper myself after reading this thread. could prove useful, and hopefully mean in those last few seconds i don't get auction fever and bid more than i want to. So i set the sniper at my realistic bid, leave it & wait and see...

Is it 100% free to use? If you win the auction, do you have to pay justsnipe a fee/commission for winning?

I thought I understood it until I read that :p

just joking, spot on explanation.

The thing that gets some people is the fact they do not register a bid on the item, but as you mentioned, the sniping software will not put a bid in for you if your top price has already been beaten.

I may have to try this - I collect something fairly obscure - but the number of times I am sniped by serious US collectors is becoming too much to bear - and I only get to bid on something every 1-2 months! (Goes away to gnash teeth..........)

I feel rather uneasy about sharing my eBay password - are we sure it's safe?

I've used JustSnipe for donkeys (2 years ish) not had a problem with ebay password related to them.

oh dear someone send me to bed - Ive just read that that piece of software was called JustSnipe for Donkeys - though it might have been like those Excel for Dummies books you get off for a lie down

Nah - don't want to snipe for donkeys - besides - eBay don't let you list livestock!

Hi Pearls - you have to use the eBay password, otherwise the snipe cannot register your bid!

OK G&F - I'm not that daft (really!) - but I'm rather anal about my passwords and the request that I should just TYPE IT  rather took me aback!

I agree, but I always use the https of JustSnipe and have used JustSnipe for a couple of years without me password being got at....

Just to revive a very old thread!!

If the auction was at £4 and I'd registered to snipe maximum of £20, would the sniper bid £4.40 (or whatever) or would it bid £20?

Don't want to get caught out!!

Gizmos
13th January 2008, 22:33
it would put it in as your max bid of £20 but would still bid in the same increments - it is basically the same as you lodging a bid for £20 in the first place - only if there are other bidders will it go that high

Thanks for this info guys. I have been wondering for ages what "sniping" was and how to do it!!!

Now - next question - where is the thread for the other type of "sniper"???

I use Bidmate and have done for about the last 4 years - it gives 3 free snipes a week.

I prefer to manually snipe an auction as nothing beats the adrenaline rush, but use the sniper when an auction is ending at a time I can't be at my PC.

One thing to remember is using a snipe tool doesn't guarantee you will win the auction as you don't know how much other bidders may be preapred to bid.
Bid your max on a snipe and keep your fingers crossed :)

I have never heard of this sniping thing!!

I sit here poised at the end of an auction, trying to type quickly and get it in just at the right second!!!

Will have to investigate further!

Martin Riggs - he did a guy in Laos from 1000 yards out, head shot in a high wind. Only 2 or 3 guys in the world could have made that shot.

A rep & my commiserations to the first person who knows what I'm talking about :D

after reading these postings i must admit i am a frequent sniper. i always leave it until 15/20 seconds before placing my bid. i must say this program sounds good and i will be looking into it
