Pots of herbs in supermarkets have only a limited life as they have been forced and then are stuck in a warm supermarket. To get more out of them, pot them on into a larger pot, pop them outside on a warm day and fetch them back in at night, for several days. The perennial varieties may then be strong enough to plant in the garden. Even the annual ones will give you a better crop as the result of a bit of TLC.

I like herbs as much for their smell and ornamental value as their culinary use.
As well as having them in the garden I like to plant a mixture in a large pot near the house and it's handy to nip out a snip a few bits when I want.
I usually include a rosemary, a coloured sage, lemon thyme, parsley and golden oregano. They look really pretty together as well as being useful.
Thyme, oregano and marjoram are useful ground cover plants in the border as well. You won't often find ornamental herbs in the supermarket, but because they are easy to grow, it's worth buying some from a garden centre.

Hi,
Tuppence-worth;

Mint;

Don't 'border or ground' plant it.

Pots or troughs to contain the roots, b'coz tiz so prolific and 'spreads' like wild-fire.

Best,

B..

Yes, it certainly does. I usually plant it in a large pot and sink the pot in the ground.

Wild garlic.

[Easily found, in flower now and will go aromatic in the next couple of weeks].

Available now, in a wood, hedge-row, ditch or dyke near you

[For transplanting to your '1/2 shade, under deciduous and dampish' garden area].

Best,

B.

Sorry, don't kow much about Peace lilies.
Why do you say it's sulking?
Have you over/under watered it or had it in a draught?

I never thought about growing wild garlic.

Doesn't produce a 'clove'.

Wash [rinse] a whole 'root to flower' [or several!] then add chopped to yr. salad or cooked 'concoction'.

Wonderful in 'stir-fries'.

Beautiful 'aromatic' out-door scent late May/early June.

It sounds like it would be very useful. I've never seen it growing around here, but I have seen it in Devon.

Sorry to appear rather dim............

But, the 'Steamy Shower' thing.

What actually worked and for who?

And how?

Coriander is very easy to grow from seed. It's very quick to run to seed, so maybe grow a succession of it. It's probably more prone to run to seed quickly if grown in a small pot so try giving it more space, either a much larger pot or in the border.

Also, I've found that slugs love herbs so watch out for them.

The hedgehogs probably have a tasty treat - herb flavoured slugs! :D

hedgehogs eat cigarrettes apparently, then lie about foaming at the mouth!
