Hi just wondered if anyone had been to Grenada and what they thought of it?

Cheers

We stayed there for 2wks in Nov/Dec 2009.

Grenada is a lush caribbean island (similar to St Lucia) & the people are warm & friendly. We found mainly Brits & Canadians, however, it doesn't get many visitors from the USA, for some reason they haven't any good flight routes.

The Rex Grenadian, is very much as described on Trip Advisor, it's situated really close to the airport, but somehow there's no aircraft noise. The fabric of the hotel is in dire need of upgrading, the restaurant had old bamboo tables & chairs (painted white) odd cutlery & regulary ran out of plates, glasses etc. We found the food tasty, but repetative after a week. The same with the rooms, bamboo furniture painted white.

The grounds are lovely & there are 2 beaches, we enjoyed the watersports beach as it is better to get in the sea.

The staff at the hotel are fantastic, eager to help & always smiling.

We generally stay at 4/5* hotels in the Caribbean, so it was a bit of a shock to us at first, but it was a 2nd holiday for us that year (courtesy of Clubcard :))but you must bear in mind The Rex Grenadian is 3* keep that in mind & you wont be disappointed.

The hotel generally is in need of a full re-vamp, but I suppose the global economy is stopping the Rex group from doing this. Perhaps if they did re-vamp the prices would rise dramatically.

All in all we had a lovely time at the Grenadian & on the island. Anything else you want to know just ask ;)

Hi Pokealot,

I stayed at the Rex in Grenada in February 2010, a couple of months after tt44, and they had started to refurbish the rooms then. Bit hit & miss if you got a refurbished room. However, some people got upgraded (I think there are 3 grades of rooms) when the hotel wasn't full - they did have a Medical Conference on when we were there, and the hotel seemed pretty full at that time. Totally agree with all tt44 says - the hotel does need some TLC and updating, but the staff more than compensate for it. Food is better than the normal 'All Inclusive' buffet. Also, the hotel is set in lovely grounds with two large lakes and plenty of wildlife. The evening entertainment was quite good too with steel bands, singers etc. Try and get out and about as the Grenadians are very friendly and proud of their Island and love to show it off.

We had a great time and I am sure you will too.

Thank you both for your replies - looking at Trip Advisor the reviews of late have been fantastic and it seems that the majority of the refurb has been done...dont plan on spending too much time in the room anyway..lol

Two weeks of sun, sea, sand and friendly Grenandians...can't wait!

Just to follow up if anyone is considering Grenada then go for it...it is just the most beautiful and friendly of the Caribean Islands that we have been to...food was fantastic, so much to see and do.

Can't wait for a return visit!
