Fab, thanks Heather.

Another thing to remember is you can generally only get the 50% discount on the year one if you have applied for the free one.

it is a great offer .

..In Scotland we already get 2 kids free per paying adult ..but unfortuantly for some reason doesn't work when booking through any other agent example Red SpottedHanky so still works out cheaper for me to have a railcard if going longer distances

I haven't had a confirmation either. Can't remember if I had one last year when I got one of these though.

Thanks for the Tesco rewards information. I've been debating which will be best for us this year, so it's really helpful to see the costs of both side by side. As I don't have anything particular I'm saving my points for, the Tesco rewards sound like a good way to go.

Why? You need £15 of vouchers, but the railcard is only £20 using the £10 voucher the Mail gives you. Seems a waste of vouchers.

Nothing else I want to spend vouchers on at the moment, and I have some that will be expiring.

Also, I'm going on holiday by train very close to the time I could apply for a railcard with the Mail's voucher. I'm a bit worried that my new railcard wouldn't have arrived before my outgoing journey. My existing railcard (from last year's offer) would be okay for my outgoing journey, but it will have expired by the time I need to travel back home.

I have a unique promotional code from the Daily Mail for £10 off the 1 year Family and Freinds railcard. I don't know if they are transferable but if someone wants to try PM me. It expires 12th August 2013.

The code has gone now.
