We seem to be a bit OT on the 'dont compare' thread sometimes with things that DO compare! So I thought I would start a thread of shops where peeps have found good items for the APG

As a guide, the APG works like this. You need to buy 8 applicable items (things like household and sandwiches are exempt, basically normal grocery foodstuffs, wine and confectionery are OK) At least one must be comparable with another supermarket. Then they give you the difference plus 10% back if your shop is not 10% cheaper.

This may seem borderline OK but the beauty is if you spend say ?100. One item is just 1p cheaper at Tesco and the rest are the same price at Tesco. They give you that difference plus 10% of ?100 - ?10 voucher.

The advantages of this scheme over Tesco's are mainly that you can enter your receipt after 3 hours and get an instant result back, and that you can get a good size (unlimited value but limited to ?100 total per email address in one month) voucher back even if it is just one item 1p cheaper at T!! The other way around T would just give you 1p!

Things to note:

Don't buy more than ten of any one item

Make sure you buy at least 8 different items (safest to buy 9 or 10)

Any things that are dearer at T will reduce the APG on the things that are cheaper at T, so maybe split your shop into two transactions.

Vina Albali Rose and Red (Tempranillo) currently 3 for ?10 at Asda and 3 for ?12 at T

But Asda Price Guarantee doesn't take the Asda discount into account so compares the full price (?5.98 for one and ?6.18 for the other) against ?4 at T (when you buy in 3's). Basically works out at about 90p a bottle.

**Note this is a glitch so may get fixed at any time**

** still working Fri 31 August**

Heinz 1.5kg squeezy bottle ketchup. ?3 Asda, 19p Tesco (if you can find it!)

Buy at Asda (with the minimum 7 other items to make up the shop) and get ?2.81 back on each one plus 10% of rest of shop (assuming you don't buy other items that area cheaper at Tesco)

**edit still working Fri 31 August**

There is a chance that hair products that are 342 in T are comparing at a 3rd when bought in 1 or 2 in Asda.
Heads and shoulders 500ml is ?4.99 in T but when bought in A is comparing at a 3rd if just 1 or 2 hair products are bought in A
Does that make sense?

May work on 3 items, i'll check later

Has anyone tried this morning if the wine/ketchup/chocs thing still works? Just wondering if it is worth me doing another trip to Asda today. Will use all the stuff eventually . Will not get 30 bottles though but another couple of ketchups etc would be good!

ok, this morning we nervously tried this one out - talk about pacing up and down and working out whether we were doing the right thing with what we bought but we only bought what we needed!!!

This was our shop

3 x 1.5kg Heinz ketchup
6 x Galaxy Minstrels (Sweet Sundays)
2 x Milky Way Stars (Sweet Sundays)
1 x tin of celebrations
1 banana
1 apple
1 x Flora buttery
1 x smart price toothpaste
1 x packet of smart price toothbrushes
1 x hoi sin sauce

Total paid = ?34.80

Coupon received = ?12.49

so approximately a third off our bill or free T.K. whichever you prefer.

We are well happy with that for our first attempt

^^ is what happened when I bought Heads and Shoulders 400ml and the Asda protect.
They are saying on MSE that if you but 2 of the expensive shampoo/conditioners/hair dye that are on offer for 342 in Mr T plus a cheaper Asda brand shampoo/conditioner you will pay pence not pounds. I haven't been back to try as my Asda is a 15 minute drive. Hope to go tomorrow when I do my weekly shop.

I got 8 of the Heinz ketchup today and 2 Head and shoulders, along with a few other bits. Messed up the shampoo part slightly as I got a small Herbal Essences which was cheaper at Asda but still ended up with ?34 voucher back on a ?44 spend. Not bad, I am on a roll after my Boots sprays yesterday! Also, while I was in Asda they had some sale items from the Pets event so I got 2 packs of 40 Iams cat food pouches for ?3 each! Brilliant bargain if your Asda has them (and you have a cat!). Paid separately of course. They had 2kg packs of guinea pig food for 52p and Whiskas Oh so Meaty for aenior cats, 8 pouches for 74p but my moggy is just 2 years old.

Why on earth would I not be okay? I have done nothing wrong, am not attempting to fraudulently re-use a voucher and it was obtained within the rules of the scheme. I have hardly ever had an APG voucher let alone gone over the ?100 per month limit so I will be absolutely amazed if I have a problem with it. I think people who are making multiple shops may have questions asked but I have only done one lot!

Sorry, perhaps I worded that a bit clumsily :o. I am not saying you have done anything wrong at all. I just know from using a 89p voucher in Asda myself last week, that the checkout people not often get ones for more than a few pounds. A ?34 voucher might surprise them a bit. Then again, they may not bat an eyelid. A bit like using coupons in Tesco years ago, some staff were fine, some would question everything - as if your savings were coming out of their pockets.

Its back to where is your line really. I have had two vouchers for between ?20 and ?30 and both times the SA were amazed and commented on it. No problems as such but it has made me a bit wary about such big vouchers. There are people on MSE and HUKD generating even larger ones.

We've had the argument/discussion before about such matters. I feel those buying several individual pieces of veg to make up their shop are far more conspicuous myself but each to their own I suppose!

Tesco currently has some shampoo/conditioners/hair products on offer 342
For some reason Asda is price comparing at 16p each if you buy 2 of the 342 products and Asda smart price conditioner 24p(other products have similar effects but will be more than 16p)
Best buys
2 x Heads & Shoulders large plus 1x SP conditioner
2 x Tresseme large plus 1 x SP conditioner
The items must be comparable with T, SP shampoo doesn't work as it is N/A against T.
I've also bought the Batiste dry shampoo x 2 plus SP conditioner and it worked :)
I'm trying the hairspray later.
Some hair products are 3 for ?10, especially some hairsprays in Asda so avoid.
Check my supermarket before buying
Have fun :)

Just 3 as the APG will be big. I was tempted but worried it also may cause a problem with the 342.
The same shampoo will be classed as 1 comparable.

If an item in Tesco is on offer, will Asda take this into account. Eg cucumber is
80p in A but 2 fo ?1 in T. Does the APG recognise 60p difference?

Dominic

If it's 80p in A and 80p (two for ?1) in T, it will compare 80p v 80p if you buy one, or ?1.60 v ?1.00 if you buy two.

I'm confused. I haven't tried this before so gave it a run today. I bought 10 items, 8 different including the ketchup, pepsi max and various items I needed. Yet when I enter my details it says that my receipt didn't contain 'the minimum of 8 different items, covered by the ASDA Price Guarantee, of which at least 1 must be comparable'. I can't work out why it has rejected me. Any ideas?

oh yes !!!

Ketchup still working, shampoos still working, deodorants still working, baby new potatoes - no glitch as such but comparing very cheaply at 39p and one I have not tried yet Mrs Crumblys 6 pack of macaroons are apparently comparing at 1p.

New update - teeth products are comparing against waitrose - not quite got my head around and I have loads of toothpaste anyway but the theory is :

Anything that is 3 for 2 at another supermarket across a range of products ie: shampoos, toothpaste etc is comparing at asda if you buy 2 expensive items and 1 cheap item from that same range.

This could run & run on different items - personally I am waiting for Stella !!! lol.

The macaroons work when compared to Waitrose where some of the oral items compare favourably too. I am staying away from them and will stick to items compared to T (like wine, ketchup, shampoo, potatoes), am trying very hard to stay uptodate with the Elite thread but it is not easy lol :)

I've finally been to buy soe shampoo. Now the wait to see if I got it right. First time I've gone for the APG but I could be a regular if this works ok for me.

Which A's is your local Salsa, the old Netto or the other one. I'm closest to the old Netto one but find it a bit small - but I supose for bargains I could get used to it.

I've picked up a dry shampoo today to help DD when she goes to Uni - I hoping she'll get an extra day without washing her hair with it.

Someone has said that the Elnett compares well but I didn't make a note of which one so I'm hoping that pops up again as I'd quite like some

Hiya KarenBB mine is the old netto closest to work - although when the kids go back to school I may venture further afield as getting a bit paranoid going to the same one. Obviously hoping that the glitch continues to run into school term so I can really have some fun!!!

Don't know about the hairdye, sorry, but do know now that you can buy 1 SP conditioner and either 2 or 5 or 8 etc more expensive hair items to go with it for the glitch still to work. Make sure your total number of haircare items (incl the SP cond) can be divided by 3 lol. You do very quickly end up with a sizeable APG :o. That's right meemo, 5 Tresemmes with 1 cheapy cond would work, providing you have the right Tresemmes as not all are included. Check MSM to be sure. And as long as you don't mind having a ?17 APG to spend later ofcourse .

Good job you did not get the macaroons, as they would not have compared. With the shampoo and ketchup etc your shop will be compared to Tescos, the macaroons/cleaning/oral stuff is for comparing with Waitrose. You would have to do a separate shop to make the most of different sets of offers. HTHS.

No you don't have to do it straight away, you have 28 days I think. Not sure what happens if they fix the glitch though . I am all shopped out I think. Have 2 big ketchups, my store has now run out, but 2 will keep us going for 12 months probably. Have 4 big shampoos that did not cost much, a few shampoos that went wrong and I have run out of steam. Don't have the storage space either to get lots and lots, so will enjoy spending my APGs but will go back to normal shopping for now.

You will need a month lol
Latest is household cleaning A v W
Don't mix hair with cleaning but you can mix hair with the deodrant. Cleaning can be mixed with teeth. I haven't got into the tooth one.
Cleaning - Buy 1 cheap and 2 expensive for 53/54 each
E.g. 1 x Asda toilet gel 75p (yellow bottle) 2 x mr muscle drain gel/ former
Or 1 x toilet gel 2 x dettol green apple wipes
Or 1 x toilet gel 1 x duck lime toilet discs 1 x dettol green apple wipes
There are many combinations those above are an example. Best to read up on MSE :)

Can you clarify this please? I'm not understanding what you mean by 'cheapest bogofs' - can you give an example please?

salsa
6th September 2012, 07:50
Dom, not sure if I can explain this properly but I'll try, theory is that if you buy a cheap bogof in a range ie dairy, cupboard it then applies that cheap price against an expensive bogof eg ambrosia rice pudding is 47p but the price checker is then applying that 47p to 8 cans of coke as well. Also this morning it has been tried on cheese, pilgrims choice is bogof in sainsburys , dairylea triangles were added to the basket as well which then made the pilgrims choice compare at 97p.

You might need to scoot over to msm to get the full gist, I'm trying to keep you all updated but tbh it's changing hourly & more glitches discovered all the time.

As Salsa said, this thread moves really fast, but if you do a search of that thread for coke or Coca-Cola you will see the results of peoples shops.

The ambrosia rice pudding is triggering a low price comparison against sainsburys for coke & dairy lea doing the same for cheese, but you need to be careful what you buy so it compares to sainsburys not tesco.

I'm not doing this one myself as I don't eat any of the above stuff, it I have done a couple of small shampoo shops.

Oh no sweepy, that's gutting!

I've only done a couple of APG shops but I am making sure I buy a few extra items just incase.
I buy smart price mushy peas 4p, soya milk 59p & the trays of naturalise dog food. No profit in these, but they are things I use so handy to bulk up the shop. There are more ideas on the mse thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4152221&page=420

Nice shops Button! :)

Do you know that you don't need to buy the gel AND the conditioner? The SP conditioner alone will trigger the 16p comparison against tesco. So you could buy 5 of the shampoos that you want plus 1 SP conditioner. Or 2 shampoos & one cond (must be in 3's).

Beat me to it, MM, was just gonna point out the same thing. Just be aware with the ?5ish shampoos, if you buy 6 instead of 3 obviously your APG is going to shoot up, probs over ?10. Fine if you travel between several stores to get rid of them, but might not be so good if you only have 1 store to use.

Well done but you're triggering some fairly big APG's there.
Depends where you draw you line and all that, but Asda not so keen on APG's over a tenner so I try and keep them under that. The longer we can keep this glitch going the better, so I'm trying not to draw to much attention to it by using big APGs, just doing smaller amounts instead.

It's so easy to mess this one up - well, it is if you're me...e.g. tried the cheese shop and got the wrong size Dairylea :(
Miscounted my shampoos :(
Thought it would be OK to include whoopsies as had read they did not compare, - but they compared :(
I got 10 different items but for some reason the computer said 'No' so I ended up paying full price for 2 mincemeat and 6 deodorants :(
Plus all the trying to work out which supermarket things will compare with - It's hard work!! Still, it does liven up the shopping experience :D

Cross posted. I am not going to take anything back a I only have one Asda nearby and I don't want to raise my profile. But yes, it can be an expensive mistake - I am only buying things I need and would buy anyway and for my 'filler' items I am buying either stuff like milk, veg, bread, dog food or things that will keep like tins of sweetcorn, tomatoes, beans etc.

Thanks Salsa, if I wanted the cleaning glitch enough I'd make the time. I might have a go at the weekend if it's still working.

Fillers I go for are an apple, a banana, an orange, an onion, brocoli, haribo tangfastics for 10p and flumps for 10p. We get through lots of fruit so eaten straight away instead of me buying 6/8 at a time. I don't think the sweets compare everywhere.

Dominic
7th September 2012, 06:10
"I'm out" at the moment as I'm too busy with life and overtime! So good luck to everyone on this.

Just to add to the post above, you need 8 different items but occasionally people have had 8 or 9 and it comes up as not enough items... So best advice is to get at least 10 items, remembering that some non-food departments don't count.

Easy ones are smartprice items - eg mushy peas at 4p, veg as stated, sweets as stated. I also compared a few basic staples (rice, pasta, cereal etc) online before shopping. The filler items are purely to make up the shop, don't get too hung up on why so many buy obscure 'flumps' - it's simply an item that is known to count as one of the 8 that's cheap, but there are 1000's more if people tried them but it's a case of many following the herd and playing safe not wanting to risk it not comparing.

It was tricky enough when it was just shampoo (smartprice conditioner compares but not the shampoo, for example) but now the glitch works on other items and comparing at different supermarkets it really is getting complex.

It's a great glitch this but the amount of research it needs is very time consuming. You've really got to dedicate the time to study this and plan your shops otherwise you'll get caught out. It isn't helped that the MSE thread is also filled with loads of chat and people recounting their troubles then others posting to sympathise etc. It's a full time job just keeping pace with it.

uklego
7th September 2012, 06:37
I do agree with you Dom that it is a great glitch but I don't find it that time consuming.

I skim MSE until I can see all the excitement and then I read it thoroughly to make sure I've got it.

By far the best way is to look at what other peeps have bought successfully.
So here is the Ambrosia/Coke combo that worked last night and I have highlighted the glitching items - the other items are our personal choice

We paid 'in real money' less than a ?1 as we handed over an ASDA PG coupon.

BEWARE
This is very addictive, I find I want to do a shop every day but it helps that our local ASDA is only a 2 minute walk away.

Also as our dog is walked , wombling is proving very successful. She knows ASDA carpark very well now :eyebrows:

Dominic
7th September 2012, 06:45
It's only not 'real money' if your APG is wombled though... You've paid real money to get that, the APG is your money back. Obviously if you recycle your APG by spending on an APG shop then that puts a different slant on it again.

It's very easy to lose track of how much you've spent to save iyswim? It's another one of those glitches where it's easy to end up with an empty bank account and a full kitchen!

Also you need to have a pretty good feel for APG basics to do this as skim reading and adapting your shops can lead to major problems with things not comparing correctly (eg mixing coke and shampoo)

uklego
7th September 2012, 06:51
Yes I can see you point of view Dom, in the first shops, it was real money but last nights wasn't as it was an accumulative effect.

We haven't been greedy on this one - we are not stock piling.

Also living so close to an ASDA is having great results especially as we are walking Holly at the same time.

Hubby has just walked in whistling the womble theme tune so I'll come back and let you know if we have got a result :D

Got 2 Preference no. 7 dark blonde yesterday, Aussie 3 minute miracle 250ml, Head and shoulders for itchy scalp, used a ?31 APG (I have to go 7 miles to shop so can't faff about with keeping under ?10). SA did not bat an eyelid and went to give me receipt back without signing it but I told her to keep it as I definitely won't be returning anything! Have enough shampoo for whole family for about a year so the new ?29 APG will be used on next week's big shop. Please don't bother with comments about keeping under radar etc., I use that shop all the time anyway and never usually even get an APG for more than a couple of quid so this has been a bonus which I haven't taken the mickey on.

Sainsbury. If you look on mysupermarket you can check the finish items which are 3 for 2. If you buy one of the cheapest (freshener at ?2.00 I think) it should make the price of all 3 ?1.35 each. It should also work as the shampoo does if you add another 3 items at a time - ie one cheap and 2/5/8 more expensive, but I didn't want to risk an APG over ?10.

I have the same dilema, I have a 35 mile trip to shop so have to make it worth while, have three apg's for the ?22 mark but have not used one yet, shouldn't be a prob as have not broken any rules.

My plan is, don't panic, suggest they input the receipt themselves to check if APG is correct if you are questioned. Haven't had to do that yet and have used ?34 and ?31 but in view of other people's comments I do choose a young SA who looks as if they will know the system properly. Does make the heart beat faster though, reminds me of the old Tesco DTD days! I can't be bothered with working out the cheese and cleaning stuff but it is nice to have some luxury shampoos and hairdye!

Good afternoon
Does anyone know if the macaroons still compare on a Waitrose shop please?

Have you managed to find the elusive macaroons!!!

Sadly looks like this glitch has been fixed, was showing at a couple of pence at Waitrose before but now looks to be same price in A's and W's now.

By the way, which aisle did you find them in, never managed to find them.

These 3 shops worked well for me yesterday, each with a variety of basket fillers paracetamol, ibuprofen, SP kidney beans, SP chopped toms, 6 pack salad toms, SP marrowfat peas, SP sweetcorn, SP tomato soup etc etc (bit of a tomato theme going on!).

My stores are all strict so keeping below the ?10 radar and doing small shops in diff stores.

1 x Listerine Total Care Mouthwash (95ml) ?1.12 ?0.80
1 x Sensodyne Pronamel Mint Toothpaste Tube (75ml) ?3.00 ?0.80

To be fair, I think those doing lots of ?10 or so APG's are taking the Mick more than a few big ones, but really this has lasted longer than anyone really expected and if it ends tomorrow I really don't think we need to point any fingers. It is daft to think everyone will do the occasional little shop and nobody will stockpile. For every one of those getting ?30 or so APG's there will be 1 or 2 more getting ?50-60 ones!

I am amazed it has lasted this long especially the tomato ketchup, may have to get one last one today on the way to the airport to pick up my boys as my niece asked me for it, they eat lots of it! I am more than happy with what I have had and feel no need to stockpile 1000 bottles as someone has on MSE, each to their own I suppose. We don't really drink fizzy so no coke for me and as I said before it's all quite complex on the cleaning stuff. I like Arm and hammer toothpaste which was recently on offer in Asda for ?1 so no need for that either. It will be nice to get back to normal shopping to be honest.

All I can do is speak from my personal experience about myself, that's why I said I'm sticking to smaller shops in different stores with APG's below a tenner, what others do is upto them but I'm just saying what I do, not what others should do.

Not sure why that would be considered taking the mick tho?

I generated a couple of bigger APGs when I first started doing APGs a few weeks back and before I knew that Asda are much stricter than tesco ever were, got some right grief in Asda so thats why I'm sticking below a tenner. Below a tenner the APG's don't need approval from a supervisor and can be just scanned by the SA at the till.

Like I said, each to their own, it's all good! I don't think of anyone as taking the mick except those who seem determined to amass hundreds of an item just for the sake of it, but even those people could say Asda should have sorted this ages ago I suppose.

I used a ?6.50 APG from the other day and the SA commented on how good it was, especially as I had only spent just under ?9 on the original shop. If I do any more shops then I will add several each of the cheapo items to pad it out a bit. I'm only adding things in that I know I will use.
It's definitely worth making sure you have more than 8 items as there were some SP items that were N/A, such as Toffees against Tesco and SP noodle snackpots which were N/A against Sainsburys. SP chicken and Veg cup soups were N/A against both.

I managed to spend my 'big' ?14 APG generated by 6 shampoos/conditioners on my weekly shop today. SA completely uninterested, put it thru as manufacturer's coupon without uttering a word :D. Did another shop vs W with some cleaning materials and dental stuff and used a ?1.xx and a ?3.xx APG combined. My store now has TKs again (with pumps!), I think I now have 3 in total and that will do, don't want anymore, I have no cellar . Friends glaze over when I talk about money saving and are not interested, so I just get what we use as a family.

Will see what my APG return is at about 6pm and am trying to keep an eye on the Elite thread to see what gets uncovered. It moves very fast! But will not do the Coke glitch as we don't drink the stuff, and am not sure filling up the fridge with lots of cheese will do us any good .

I think you only need 1 ambrosia to 1, 3 or 5 coke. I see you've got the lake district cheese, if you had put dairylea traingles (16's) or spread (300g) you would have got your cheese for 97p. That one works in multiples of 3 sofor example I bought 1 dairylea and 5 lake district.

Yep. Get TK together with shampoos and conditioners etc to compare with T, get cleaning and dental to compare with W, get Coke and cheese to compare with S. And don't forget to get at least 10 different items in total to be on the safe side, plenty of filler items available.

Yes, as it can reduce the amount if one of the competittors has something significantly dearer than the other. There seem to be some products which trigger the comparison e.g. the ketchup only compares with tesco, so don't buy the cheese or the coke with ketchup or shampoo shops for example.

Dental and cleaning is A V W so don't add TK, mincemeat or deodrant

Messed up 2 different shops today. First one was my son who went through with the shampoos. i worked out total cost incorrectly and after PG coupon was given the balance was zero !!
Meant to leave about ?4 or ?5 to pay.

Anyway by chance total cost was exactly the same as APG voucher. Young SA was confused and went to give my son ?2.52 ( but that was the multi product discount for the HE shampoo).
Another SA got involved and resulted in my son having to go to CS, all was ok but CS signed new receipt as well as old receipt so now i will be unable to get APG on that shop.

On my shop i bought 6 x 8pack) of coke (DW goes through loads of these) along with 1 custard.
I think i should of got 3 or 5 of the cokes.
So lesson to be learnt is quite simple... Dont do PG shop when tired.

Hopefully you will be Ok with the Coke shop - I did one with 6 x 8 packs and two custards and it worked out fine. Not sure if you need 2 custards or just one??

You only "need" 1 of the ambrosia with any odd number of coke - but I always buy 1 of each of the ambrosia with an even number of coke - just in case 1 of the ambrosias suddenly comes back as N/A ;)

Hi all. Well. CAn confirm that the coke works and think I ended up paying around a quid for each 8 pack of coke. Accidentally closed the browser page so can't post my list (is there anyway of getting it back?).

My question is if we can recycle the vouchers to get even more Apg vouchers like we did in the DTD days at Tesco?

I did a shop today at 4pm & they are now NOT comparing the Soft &Gentle to 20p - came back N/A.
Just realised I was going by the lid tops - purple and peach NOT what was written on the label. Never mind - some you win. some you lose.

Did 4 shops between hubby & myself. OMG went up to ?50 on cleaning stuff & had one back for ?40. Hubby sneaked the Sunbites in. MEN! Although he's pretty good.
Wombled a grand total of ?2.80 on 3 receipts. The one I nearly didn't check came back with ?2.10 from some strange sounding Asian beer that I've never heard of.

Yes
Shampoo, TK, mincemeat, deodrant is A v T
Dental and cleaning is A V W so don't add TK, mincemeat or deodrant
Hang on I'll look for the breakdown it is easier

Just realised the mincemeat is no longer showing as 20p in Tesco on MSM and on checking on MSE its reported as no longer working :(
