Can you unlock PAYG mobiles?

Found these:

Order a SIM card FREE here:
https://www.phoneshopbysainsburys.co.uk/free-sim

Link your Mobile by Sainsbury's account and Nectar account online here:
http://www.phoneshopbysainsburys.co.uk/nectar-deals/#link-your-nectar-card

It doesn't mention 1000 points though; the current offer advertised on the website appears to be double points for 30 days if you buy a bundle.

You can unlock any phone for a fee, making it not worth the deal. If you know what you are doing with a computer, you can also unlock some for free yourself, but may not be worth the hassle. You must have an old or know someone with an unlocked phone you can borrow for 5min.

Those Tesco mobiles are going to be locked (see post above) and even if not it wouldn't really be worth it - maybe a break-even on 1 nectar card, small profit on 2. Best to use existing or borrowed handset to make this worthwhile.

Sarah, you amaze me with the many obscure deals you dig up! Since I have unlocked handsets and 2 accounts between the oh and I, time to put this to the test I guess... ggrrr, but after ebooks bonus which we've yet to receive (along with an outstanding callback), is it worth the effort and subsequent headache?

PS I would suggest following the text route as mentioned by OP for the bonus unless you want to pay for a bundle AND expect to spend more than ?500 in the next 30 days.

I got a free Mobile by Sainsbury's SIM card yesterday using a catalina coupon so was looking for details of the 1000 points promotion. There are several ways to link accounts but I couldn't find any published T&Cs so can't be sure what qualifies.

Wonder where the op saw this advertised, or was it a personal email or spit?

Interested if anyone ever got any points for this. We've never received a bonus, but did this since free for myself and OH and have both got random points (16, 20, 60) credited weekly listed as Mobile by Sainsbury's since linking, even though I've never credited my sims or used them! so no bonus as anticipated, but some points nevertheless so not all bad.

I found they appeared to count the month of activation as having an active bundle, so this has the potential to qualify for the double points promotion (on Sainsbury's shopping - see here (http://www.phoneshopbysainsburys.co.uk/mbs-nectar-terms)). If so, this makes it beneficial to activate new SIM cards at the beginning of a month whenever possible, so that you get the longest time before it expires, assuming you don't actually purchase a bundle anyway. I haven't received any Nectar points from Mobile by Sainsburys though.
