Just got back from canaries, the kids 7 and 9 spent a week in the pool!! However, they both have got burned on their faces, they wore goggles some of the time and I think that where they kept putting them on and off it has rubbed them too. I have been smothering them in baby oil, and aole vera but wondered if anyone has a miracle cure.
The main area is under the eyes so I dont want anything that will irritate them. DS complains that most of the potions that I have suggested sting!

My son always gets red under his eyes when he has been swimming. I always thought it was sunburn but someone has suggested to me his skin is sensitive to the rubber around the goggles, which actually makes more sense than sunburn given the area affected - and I too would be interested in what you can put on it. Mine always complains that whatever after sun I put on, it stings, even facial ones.
Hope you had a great holiday x

I was once told vinegar would help with the pain if it is painful.
Hope it does not hurt

firstly I would probably not recommend baby oil on the sunburnt area - past experience of when I used that it seemed to keep the heat in the skin rather than take it away
I love the green gel aloe vera stuff and if you put it in the fridge it just seems so much more beneficial - obviously different things work for different people. I use the Hawaiin Tropic one (got from Netto for 99p) but the Banana Boat is the same

I've always found aloe vera to be the best thing for sunburn. It can make your skin feel a bit tight when its first put on but it does seem to really heal it. I got burnt a bit on my back when I went to Egypt, but I put loads of aloe vera on and it really calmed it & my skin hasn't peeled.
Maybe try the aloe vera without the baby oil as I was alway taught that putting oil on a burn makes it hotter?
Hope they feel better soon?

Lavender oil is good for burns but only a couple of drops mixed in a carrier oil, like almond or grapeseed. Don't use undiluted.
E45 cream worked for me in the past.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, the heat has gone out of the area and I gave them both a mini-facial yesterday (DS9 was not impressed!) they both look alot better this morning. I think you may be right about the goggles.
It was a holiday paid for by Mr T, 1 week all inclusive to Fuerteventura. We all had a brilliant time and I am now searching for the next one!! Do I wait for another year or I might be able to scrape one in by October!

Vinegar is great to take away any pain through sunburn and also tops up the tan. Aloe vera juice is great for moisturizing the sun-burn and stops the stinging also. If anyone out there has ezcema use aloe-vera juice as a lotion on you skin and also drink it. You will be amazed with the results in a few weeks-it cures it!

I know this isnt relevant now as the op's sunburn has gone and the tans have faded but for future referance tomatoes are really good on sunburn.Whenever i go away tomatoes are one of the first things i buy and stick in the fridge just incase of a burn.Just slice in half and rub over the burn,i know it sounds barmy but it actually works.Something to do with the acid in them that takes the sting away.Or if you want to be conventional i find that fresh aloe vera is loads better that the bottled stuff and most holiday resorts have aloe plants around,so just break off a spike, cut open and smother the skin with it,this is also more effective when its cold.Cant you just tell ive been burned loads on holidays!!!

Hi janice mac,
We were just across the water from you last week courtesy of Mr T. in Tenerife and I know exactly what you mean, our youngest DS got burnt in the same place, mind you he was first in and last out of the pool everyday and I'm convinced it's the goggles as well as the water reflecting back onto the cheekbones, he burnt despite using a factor 30 sunscreen, luckily I'd also taken a factor 50 which we smothered on really thickly for the rest of the holiday and that seemed to do the trick.
Interestingly we had a young girl come around our hotel selling natural sunscreen products and she said that if a sunscreen has Aqua or Alcohol near the top of it's list of ingredients it's not going to work well in the Canaries because of the humidity, apparently it causes this type of sunscreen and water resistant ones in particular to melt on the skin.
But to echo everyone else's comments she also recommended Aloe Vera to soothe the burn and and Aloe Vera after sun lotion to prolong your tan.
Hope you had as fabulous a holiday as we did despite the sunburn.:)

I bought some and I've still got a little of the aftersun left. I'm pretty sure there was a website to reorder from on the bottle I'll get it out and post it up tomorrow, should be some info. on the website. :)
I bought it specifically for DH who gets prickly heat which according to this lady is due to a build up of creams on the skin (the melting thing) which stops the pores from being able to do their job properly, i.e. sweat, so that gets trapped and causes the rash, these natural products stop that happening 'apparently', after 5 days DH was already suffering badly and the products didn't seem to make a lot of difference, but maybe would have if he's been using them from the start.
And another thing I learnt for anyone else who like me finds it really hard to tan the lower part of your leg, it's due to lack of moisture, make sure you're drinking your 2 litres everyday plus extra when it's hot.
