My brother in law is an appliance engineer, and he maintains that Zanussi is the make he is least likely to be called out to for repairs.

Also have a look for codes for Dixons and others to save some money, and also have a look at Quidco for cashback.

Miele are mentionrd on the other thread - not cheap - mine was nearly £600 5 years ago....but it's worth it's weight in gold! It has never broken down and there are 5 of us and 2 play cricket - and that's a lot of washing. Previous 2 machines were Hotpoint - good...but regularly needed carbon fibre brushes replacing at £35-£40 a go!

I would definitely recomend!

I have a Samsung machine and recently had a massive breakdown after just 3 years, but I have 4 sons and they do test it to the max! I had Currys whatever happens insurance which had already proved its worth after 6 months when my toddler son decided to swing on the door and completely broke it off. Anyway, the repair man said to me the most important thing is to buy Tesco washing machine cleaner (£1.99) and do it once a month, it will extend the life of your machine by years. We'll see....
