Default Best website to sell gold?

I just sold some gold items to cashforyourgold.co.uk, their calculator showed I would get £175 but they made deductions for various things and offered me £138 which I declined. They then called back and offered £151, I said if I didn't accept could I just have my items back? They said yes but there would be a fee of around £30 for 'valuation and testing' even though all items were British hallmarked. So from the initial value of £8.55 per gram It has ended up around £7.50 per gram. Is that still good value? I had to pay postage too but it was about £5 for Special.

I dont know if that is good value or not, but if you looked around and got another few quotes when you next call them back could you not mention the other quotes you had to see if you could push them a bit closer to your original offer.
I thought these cash for your gold sites offered very poor returns, so I would be surprised if you couldn't get a better offer elsewhere. I also know there are people on here who have declined offers from similar companies with no ''fees'' of any kind.

high street jewelers seem to be the best bet but you still have to shop around

a friend of mine was selling some of his mothers jewelry and was been offer one to two hundred at various places then the last one he tried they gave him £500
